Schwarzenegger calls for Reagan statue
Source: Sacramento Bee

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said this morning that a statue of former President Ronald Reagan should be built at the state Capitol, and that a college, mountain range or lake should perhaps be named for him.

Schwarzenegger was with former first lady Nancy Reagan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley for a ceremonial signing of legislation designating a day each year to honor Reagan. The former California governor died in 2004.

"Ronald Reagan is my hero," Schwarzenegger said.

AND Aliquippa, Monessen, Duquesne, Monaca, Edgeworth, hell there are lots of towns Reagan destroyed in Western Pa, and add in places like Weirton in West VIrginia and Stubenville, East Liverpool and Youngstown in Ohio that also got wiped out thanks to that worthless fucking pig.

The only consolation I ever got out of what President Pruneface did was seeing him get Alzheimer's and turn into a fucking worthless shell. Karma got that rat bastard,

83. Hi
My Dad was still working in the mill then (E.T. in Braddock). He was a couple years from retirement and did make it, but so many sad stories for those who didn't. I think the Detroit area can best understand what we all went through. Government cheese and butter.....so many proud workers watching their livelihoods destroyed.

Yeah, Reagan got what he deserved and he does not deserve to be glorified and raised to sainthood as so many Republicans desire. Idiots.

89. And I remember how many millworkers fell just short of their pensions!
I remember how hundreds of millworkers fell short of their pensions at American Bridge, Jones & Laughlin, Armco, HH Robertson and Bethlehem Steel. They were just a year or 2 short of any pension and they got nothing. Sadly, there were a bunch of men who committed suicide because thy couldn't get another job. And what did our Press Whores on the Sunday Talk shows say?

The Press Whores didn't care. They told these unemplyed/unemployable people to move on with their lives, head for the nearest McDonald's and flip burgers for minimum wage.

Then the rest of America's manufacturing base vanished, and the press whores still pooh-pooh it.

I last went back to Ambridge when my dad died in 2002. The town is totally dead. Once Ambridge made wonderful bridges and monuments. Now all they do is have a Republican seminary turning out right wing ministers committed to dividing the Episcopal Church. So sad.

79. Thank you! I owe you a beer!
I refer to that airport as "National" or it's 3 letter IATA designation "DCA". Whenever using travelocity/expedia/etc. I simply input the code DCA. Dulles is IAD, and BWI is...drum-roll please...BWI!

During my Air Force career, part of my job was issuing airline tickets. Using the 3 letter codes has become a way of life for me.

it was the centerpiece of the recent Arnieville protest in Berkeley. Modeled on the Great Depression's "Hoovervilles", it was meant to dramatize the impact Ahh-nuld's budget cuts would have on disabled and other low-income Californians.

37. To quote Keith Olbermann...
from a show some time back... "Reagan is dead, and he was a lousy President". I realize the pickins are pretty slim for a republican to find a former pres to worship, but seriously, Reagan?

The damage he did with his "trickle-down economics" and in Central America were terrible. But to this day what REALLY pisses me off about him is how for eight years we did NOTHING about AIDS. How many people died needlessly because of that asshole? Fuck him. Much like will be the case with Cheney, I thought the world was just a little bit nicer places when that asshole died.

57. That is officially the stupidest idea I've heard all day.
First of all, Reagan was one of the worst presidents in history. I know he is a god to the Republicans which is one of the reasons Republicans scare me. It is also stupid because California is totally broke. They have the third highest state unemployment rate in the country. One of the cities has the highest unemployment rate in the whole country. Erecting a statue to the man who helped to screw up the economy is a slap in the face to all the desperate people in California who can't pay their bills. I'm sorry, I really hate Reagan. I was six when he was elected and I knew then that he was awful. My brother was 13 and we would argue politics. My brother loved him and still thinks he is the greatest president ever.

National and State!

The only thing that execrable piece of shit should have named after him is an outhouse!

72. So, California is in a fiscal emergency, but somehow they'll find the money
to honor Saint Ronny with a statue? Thank God that, thanks to term limits, Arnie won't be back.

78. I think that naming the State's first Debtor Prison after Ronnie Raygun
would be the most appropriate thing to do.

80. Blech. It's bad enough Capitol Park, which I go to all the time has some of the crap it does.
There are monuments to Father Serra, slave trader, and monuments celebrating wars of oppression. Please please, no statues of criminals like Reagan!

84. Actually, the "Reagan Tar Pits" does kind of have a nice ring to it. Or,
how about a phenomenon out in space, such as a black hole?

Reagan's Hole.

Perfect.

86. Prevention of this from occurring should be the number one priority of every unemployed Californian.
As I always say to people, when the subject of Ronald Reagan comes up:

Reagan was a turd and Nancy was the blowjob queen of Hollywood.

It was Reagan's free market policies that have completely destroyed the US middle class.

Simple as that.

87. A cardboard cutout is about all that California can currently afford,
and it would probably the most appropriate memorial to a cardboard cutout president.

90. There's a nice city dump that could use Reagan's monniker.
It would be a perfect honor to associate St. Ronnie's name with foul, smelling, caustic garbage.

91. You know those stickers of Calvin from "Calvin & Hobbs"
where the kid is peeing on something?

Maybe something like that. It could portray St. Ronnie peeing on someone meant to represent the middle class while paying homage to his trickle down theories.

95. I can thoroughly agree with Herrn Gropenfuehrer
Make it two and a half feet tall, coat it with Teflon and put it in one of the restrooms at Yosemite National Park. This way, people can go there to piss and shit on it without getting arrested, the park rangers will only have to hose it down to get it ready for the next day's activities, and the people who go there to pay their respects to St. Ronnie can have a really nice vacation at the same time.

98. I'd go for a statue
in downtown Los Angeles that the public could look at and touch. Pigeons would be the first to properly appreciate it.

As for a mountain range or lake, perhaps we can find an old, wet, toxic quarry. We wouldn't want to have any pristine areas named after the old coot because we have lots of beautiful sites named after wonderful people all ready, and to quote the Gipper, once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

As for a college to be named after him, how about a private college since he opposed public higher education and did the best he could to erode it. How about USC be changed to Ronald Reagan University?

Oh, and all of it should come from private funds as he would have been opposed to such a use of public funds, as would I.
