Floods triggered by heavy rains claimed lives of 40 people and rendered hundreds homeless in Afghanistan Wednesday.

'Floods left 40 persons including women and children dead in Kapisa and Laghman provinces of Afghanistan,' Xinhua said, citing a private television channel report.

Hundreds of acres of lands and houses were washed away or damaged in the natural disaster, the report said.

The heavy rains, which began in the wee hours of Wednesday, lashed several parts of the country for hours. Nearly 90 people were killed in floods in western Afghanistan in May.

The only news source available for this is Chinese. How come it's not being reported in Western media?

2. This is what happens when "news" organizations cut down on foreign correspondents.
Thanks for sending me your link. I reported on even worse flooding in Afghanistan more recently, and in a Google search never found anything about this. So sad.

3. It''s probably not being reported because they don't want us to
see the Afghan people as victims or as actual human beings who are suffering and losing life and property.

We need to HATE as much as possible to keep the war going - that's what really important :sarcasm:

4. Actually, there's a lot of reconstruction projects going on in Afghanistan
See here for some details (which are admittedly hard to come by for some strange reason): http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4496890&mesg_id=4499968

Also, more than 6,000,000 kids (boys and girls) go to school now compared to under 1,000,000 boys up to the invasion:

BTW

This video sneaked out to the European Press but there's no article...

US troops rescue flood victims in Afghanistan

Search and rescue efforts continue in Afghanistan as flood waters damage farm land and swell rivers in the region. U.S. troops conducted helicopter missions to search for stranded people, 11 miles from Jalalabad near the Pakistani border.

5. Bingo!
You're absolutely right. Can't have the public see the faces of those suffering while keeping the war machine going. They'd lose too much support.

The same goes for the floods in Pakistan now.
