Wikileaks data: suspected army source sent back to US
Source: The Guardian

A US army private under investigation for allegedly leaking classified material to the Wikileaks website has been transferred from Kuwait to the US amid growing White House and Pentagon anger over this week's revelations about the war in Afghanistan.

Bradley Manning, who has already been charged with leaking a video and other material relating to the Iraq war, is now said to be a suspected source for tens of thousands of documents which made their way via Wikileaks to the Guardian, the New York Times and Der Spiegel in Germany.

The war logs revealed civilian casualties at the hands of coalition forces that were far larger than previously reported, soaring Taliban attacks and frustration at what allies see as support for the insurgency from within Pakistan. Critics have claimed the leaks put the lives of Afghan informants and coalition troops at risk.

Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, said yesterday those behind the leaks might already have "blood on their hands" and the US defence secretary, Robert Gates, promised the criminal investigation would go "wherever it needs to go". He did not rule out the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, or the Guardian and other publications being a target.

1. Well, well, well...
All the Military Brass have their wee panties in a twist...

What are the likely repercussions for Bradley Manning? If he is the whistleblower, is there any way to help him?

2. Probably not, leaking classified materials is a felony.
He's probably going to end up spending a lot of time in prison. If has any private lawyers, then ppl might be able to chip in for the lawyer fees.

6. Notice how nobody in this administration (or the previous one) has actually addressed ...
... the content of the leaks. They're all about finding the leak and plugging it. Apparently shooting civilians indescriminatly and all the other horse-shit is OK but letting people know about it is not OK.

Tells you everything you need to know about our military.

The Army intelligence specialist charged with leaking U.S. military secrets to the WikiLeaks website has been moved from Kuwait to a military jail in Virginia.

In a statement Friday, the Army said Pvt. Bradley Manning was flown Thursday to Quantico Marine Base where he will be held while awaiting trial for leaking top-secret military intelligence to WikiLeaks.

The 22-year-old intelligence analyst is accused of leaking a classified helicopter cockpit video of a 2007 firefight in Baghdad that left a Reuters photographer and his driver dead.

He's also come under suspicion in the leak of tens of thousands of secret Afghanistan war logs WikiLeaks posted this week on the Internet.

10. That "helicopter cockpit video" is nothing compared to what a friend from Iraq sent me.
Back before the military found out that it's pants were pulled down my online friend Srg sent me a video of a helicopter mowing down a crowd of over 100 people assembled on a street in Baghdad. They were not doing anything threatening. I don't know the details of who they all were or why they were there. The video shows that they were not fighting or shooting anyone nor did they look like they were going to do that. They did not have uniforms. Weapons were not visible. They appeared to not be concerned with the helicopter. The helicopter just killed them all ...it was slaughter. I am sure that this happened a lot as the pilot acted as if it was the normal everyday activity. At least he didn't laugh about it. My friend was a sniper and he is dead now. You may remember the incident where a goat was pulling a cart that had weapons on it??? He was there and told me about it before it was in the news. Back then people were sending all kinds of video and info back to civilian friends and family. Seem awfully stupid now for the military to be so fucking concerned about the leaking of the truth. "They don't want us to see or know the truth because they know we will get upset to the point that we will demand that the war stop and that is the real truth of the matter"!

12. If a Soviet soldier had done this in the '80s
We would have called him a hero. Or at least a dissident. And we would have offered him asylum.
