(another fundraiser-ambassador)WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Wednesday that he will nominate Austinite Pam Willeford to be ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Willeford, a civic activist who is close to the president and first lady Laura Bush, must first travel to Washington for a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. She also needs approval from the full Senate, which rarely rejects ambassadors.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, praised the nomination of his longtime friend.
"Recognizing her outstanding record as a public servant, love for America and boundless energy, President Bush could not have chosen better than Pam Willeford," Cornyn said.

Willeford, who could not be reached for comment, is chairwoman of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and president of Pico Drilling Co. Then-Gov. Bush appointed her to the state board in 1995, and four years later, she was co-chair of Bush's gubernatorial inauguration committee.
