SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A man is climbing the Millennium Tower in San Francisco.

The man, in his 50s, is believed to be Dan Goodwin, also known as "Skyscraper Man."

Goodwin started climbing around 2:15 p.m.

San Francisco police say the man has refused to come down and police are waiting at the top of the building to arrest him if he makes it to the top.

2. Good luck to him. A guy in Houston tried this and fell, with the cameras rolling.
It was claimed he jumped, but I didn't think it was that clear.

16. The flag is a tribute to his father, who fought in the Korean War.
I don't know if his father is still alive or not. He used to climb to make a statement about skyscraper safety. Supposedly, during the MGM fire in Vegas he tried to convince the fire department to let him climb the building and anchor cables to the upper floors so they could run baskets along the cables to helicopters. They told him he was crazy and had no idea what climbing a skyscraper would be like. So a few months later he climbed the Sears Tower in Chicago to prove it could be done. Since then he's climbed a few buildings, always with the same message, and he always tapes a flag at the top to honor his father.

Cool guy. I don't think he's done this in 20 years, though, it looks like from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Goodwin

17.  "Skyscraper Man" scales San Francisco building using suction cups
Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 07:38 PM by AsahinaKimi
Daredevil Dan Goodwin, known as "Skyscraper Man" scales San Francisco building using suction cups

A real-life Spiderman in San Francisco scaled the exterior of a 58-story skyscraper downtown.

Dan Goodwin, 54, started climbing the city's Millennium Tower building around 2:15 p.m. local time, or 5:15 p.m. EST.

"The building is 58 stories tall. Shortly before 4 p.m., he was about halfway up," police spokesman Office Albie Esparza told Bay City News.

Goodwin, who goes by the name "Skyscraperman," appeared to be using suction cups to scale the building, while wearing what looked like a superhero costume.

He was wearing a harness and had a suckon cup that was attached to the harness that he moved very carefully up the building while secure.
