Jeff Zucker Leaving NBC
Source: Huffington Post/New York Times

NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker told the New York Times' Bill Carter that he will leave the network when the company is acquired by Comcast.

Zucker acknowledged that the decision was "not his own choice," according to Carter, and said that "in the last nine months it became increasingly clear that they did want to put their own team in place -- and I didn't want to end up being a guest in my own house."

Zucker's departure from NBC has been widely expected, and his time at the network — while it coincided with the growth of the company's cable networks — was marked by ratings problems at flagship network NBC.

Two issues came to define the end of his 24-year career with the network: the hiring of controversial executive Ben Silverman to run the network's entertainment division, and the late-night debacle that brought Jay Leno from the "Tonight Show" to 10PM and then back to the "Tonight Show," replacing Conan O'Brien after mere months on the show.

Good News/Bad News

Zucker destroyed NBC and should have been dumped long ago, so his departure is a good thing.

This means that the Comcast merger is coming closer. Not a good thing.

OPPOSE THE COMCAST/NBC MERGER!

5.  "Comments Sections" on Huffpost Elsewhere have Freepers/Baggers "Dancing in the Streets!"
Comments on Websites announcing this have the Faux News brainwashed and rest Cheering that Rachel, Keith and Ed will be GONE! They hate the Liberal Zucker and think that his handpicked head for MSNBC will be gone too!

So, we have CNN replacement and NBC/MSNBC Zucker going.. Who thinks this won't mean some big changes?

8. It's "Presumed to be Approved" ...and Zucker got out with an over 2 Year Contract that Comcast
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 05:30 PM by KoKo
Bought Out! So Zucker was fired before the Deal was Even Done..but it was "Assumed it was Done" and that's why he took the Buy Out of his Contract!

So....Others...are in danger. MSNBC's Lineup will probably be next...when Comcast buys out Olbermann, Big Ed, Rachel and leaves "Morning with Joe" and the NEW "O'Donnell, "New Democrats" show intact!

So...from my view trying to read everything I could on what it means for Zucker to leave...says...

WE DEMOCRATS ARE SCREWED! Look for MORE FAUX NEWS...just in time or just AFTER the Tea Baggers turn out with their Supreme Court Funders from the Corporate and corrupt Voting Machines in many States in the USA. So..we shall see how this all turns out. But, I'd be thinking it's back to "THE FINAL SOLUTION!" (take that for what you will) :-( But when Hitler cut off all reports of what he was doing and there was a "LOCK DOWN" all over Europe (due to the involvement of many of Queen Victoria's Children ruling the countries involved in WWII)...it does cause some of us to question...what goes on now..in these times...here.

CAN IT REALLY HAPPEN HERE?

9. I guess DU'er are not worried about what Zucker's Departure Means to MSNBC Line Up?
No answers.....Crickets..

But, then, you all know much more than I do...LOL's. Nothing to see here...just retribution for Conan and forgetting that many Dems weren't really into that "Late Night Stuff." ...For one reason or the other. Maybe we were too old to get the snark...and need to take our meds and go to bed..(that's what many here would say about us)

I'm a light nighter but would never watch Leno or Conan --

This may be the event that permanently puts TVs into the closet?

10. Sen. Al Franken was very good on trying to stop this ... with a "what next" ....
and amazed that they got this thru --

Comcast is frightening -- used to have their cable service -- they make something like

$500 million a year from internet PORN!!

And, sad to see you agree that the MSNBC programs -- especially the liberal shows --

will be hit.

One thing we have to consider -- and I really believe this is true -- the right wing is

really fragile. Everything they have and do is based on violence, myths, lies, or bought

with money. If any bit of truth hits their myth, it's like a pebble shattering a mirror!

They can't have any truth of any kind getting out -- that's why they have to control

EVERYTHING!!

And also agree here ....

But, I'd be thinking it's back to "THE FINAL SOLUTION!" The only way that the right wing can rise anywhere is with political violence -- assassinations

and stolen elections. We see this over and again as right wing pattern. T-baggers are a wholly

owned subsidiary of GOP run out of a PR firm!

In '63 they knocked out our "people's" government --

"And the myth of a free press died with the assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy."

I still don't know if so many in Congress didn't react because of the POWER of the coup -- or

because so many were targeted that it became impossible. They say in DC hundreds of lawyers

were murdered around that time. That's where they broke out into the open. Was always amazed

that so few understood that!

Hang on -!!

12. I signed Franken's Petition...But it's the zillionth petition I feel I've signed and only one went
anywhere that changed anything. It was a Petition to the FCC years ago when Michael Copps was Commish..and he was working to get FCC hearing around the country re-instated. The good thing is that the FCC got so many signatures that it stopped the action that we were petitioning to stop...the bad thing is that I've signed so many petitions throughout the years that went NOWHERE to all kinds of CongressCritters, Corporations and other Actions that I'm braindead as to all the atrocities we fought against because there were so many and they kept hitting us over and over and over during the Bush Years..that it was hard to keep up.

I felt I was a good citizen..(and I didn't just sing petitions I was actively involved in my local Dem Party and Activists groups here on the ground.) But, I feel I was rolled over by something that leaves me brain dead these days...when I see all that work seemed to be for little result.

It's sad...and I'm not the only one locally who feels that way. We don't understand why our efforts had so little follow through...and there's been so much..that it's hard to focus on all we lost individually because it seems so massive!

13. Wish I had the JFK quote ... where he tells you this will never stop ....
and he paid quite a price for the rise of the right wing!!

So did Bobby --

and MLK and many others -- IMO.

But agree that as they gain power it does begin to feel like 1939 is closing in on us.

We've all signed the petitions, we've all tried to stop corporate-press, we've all gone

to DC to march -- and we've all tried to stop corporatism one way or another.

But we still can't stop --

The saddest thing is that I do believe we could have stopped Global Warming had JFK lived.

We would have gotten a zillion different ways to create energy vs burning fossil fuels --

and we wouldn't have this secret government in place.

Maybe by the time Ike was telling America of the MIC, it was already too late to stop much

of this -- that's where so much of the secrecy is.

Never want to be on the other side of this battle, tho -- that's for sure!!

Yep--first Newsweek is spun out from under the NBC umbrella (which may explain Howard Fineman going to Huffpo.com), and now this. But it's much more pleasant to believe that Zucker is finally getting his punishment for moving Jay Leno and greenlighting Outsourced!
