Minnesota Poll: Voters opt for taxing top earners
Source: Minneapolis St. Paul Star Tribune

DFL governor candidate Mark Dayton's proposal to reduce the state's deficit by taxing the wealthy has wide support among likely voters this fall -- far ahead of the two other candidates' budget plans, according to a Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

Faced with a nearly $6 billion state budget gap, more than 60 percent of Minnesotans favor Dayton's plan to raise taxes on top earners. A plan that would reduce services and keep income taxes flat, favored by GOP candidate Tom Emmer, drew the support of 42 percent. The same percentage supported Independence Party candidate Tom Horner's proposal to broaden the sales tax as a means of closing the gap.

Poor Tom Emmer is running on tax cuts for the wealthy. What can he say now?

1. As a Minnesotan
I say hell yes. I actually am in favor of adding an additional tax bracket for people making over 200K a year and jogging it up a percent or two.

5. probably just the usual crap
She will probably shriek 'commie, commie, commie...' at the top of her lungs without any discussion or elaboration. She is a nut and the best thing that could happen to her is being districted out of existence.

I used to think her screaming about the census and getting people to not sign was a was a pro-active strategy to try to explain the fact that her absurd district will probably be broken up. Now I wonder if she isn't scorched earthing the whole process to try to deprive Minnesota of representatives in favor of of more conservative states where it is more likely republicans will win.

Sometimes I think of some of those southern states where republicans don't mind taking advantage of the numbers for purposes of getting representation and then turn and do everything they possibly can turn down the votes of mexicans and latinos. A defacto 3/5ths solution to favor them.
