Clinton tackled for oilsands comments

Senators from both major U.S. parties urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday to clarify remarks she made that signalled likely support for a $7-billion pipeline to carry Canadian oil to refineries along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Senators Mike Johanns and Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jeff Merkley of Oregon called Clinton's comments premature and damaging to the integrity of the federal review process. The legislators cautioned Clinton to consider all sides before deciding whether to grant a permit allowing TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline to cross the U.S.-Canadian border.

Clinton stirred up controversy on both sides of the border last week after saying she was "inclined" to back the project, which would carry crude oil nearly 3,200 kilometres from the oilsands in Alberta to Port Arthur, Texas, via Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.

"We're either going to be dependent on dirty oil from the Gulf or dirty oil from Canada," Clinton said after an Oct. 15 speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. "And until we can get our act together as a country and figure out that clean, renewable energy is in both our economic interests and the interests of our planet," the U.S. will remain

4. Except the oil there risks a huge environmental disaster
the environment has never been a strong issue for Hillary Clinton. The administration should have worked harder to support climate change legislation.

9. Yeah ...
... so let's encourage everyone to use the dirtiest, most polluting
and most wasteful oil that there is!

5. Woo Hoo...I'm invested in that Pipleline and I'm getting old enough, close to SS
You GO HILLARY! Defend that pipeline! I can't make money in CD's or Savings Account...so good on you for defending that POS that I'm invested in ....because I can't make extra income anywhere else with ZERO INTEREST RATES!

GO GIRL! Forcing those on "edge of SS" into "TAR SANDS PIPELINE" is a compromise we will need to make just like we've made as Americans for the Past 30 YEARS!

7. I'm not sure....
....I agree with a 2000 mile pipeline crossing the lower 48 delivering 1.1 million barrels of crude each day (example: the Alaska Pipeline and pump stations, they're environmentally pervasive and ugly)....but I will at least give her credit for being honest....

....the pipeline wouldn't be built on permafrost, so maybe it might be less ugly or could possibly be buried....but then again, what about terrorism?

8. Tar sands are
probably the most destructive form of oil extraction known to humanity - the oil from the middle east is sweet.

So the real issue is that Americans simply can't get their head around the fact that they can not control middle east oil -
canada sold their souls to the US several years ago - the US owns their arse. When you swap CEO's of the major corporations
from Canadian to US - along with major share holders - you have simply swapped ownership of your country.

Well done Canada - you have the green credentials of a cow fart.
