Rand Paul Campaign Severs Ties with County Coordinator Tim Profitt
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 03:37 PM by brooklynite
Source: Talking Points Memo

The Rand Paul campaign has just severed ties with their Bourbon County coordinator -- a man by the name of Tim Profitt -- who has identified himself as the supporter who stomped on the head and neck of a MoveOn activist outside of the Senate debate in Lexington, KY last night, according to Fox News.

Profitt apologized for the scuffle to the Associated Press this afternoon, and apparently told them that the camera angle made the incident appear worse than it really was.

The Kentucky blog "barefoot and progressive" was the first to identify Profitt as the likely assailant in a series of posts today.

TPM left a message for Profitt at his residence this afternoon, but the call was not returned before publication time.

17. STOMPER PAUL CAMPAIGN STAFFER>>
Source: HuffPO

A volunteer with Rand Paul's Senate campaign has admitted to placing his shoe firmly on the face of a MoveOn.org volunteer outside a Senate debate on Monday night, but insisted that the camera angle of the footage that captured the alteration made the scuffle look worse than it was.

27. Concussion? That misdemeanor is now a likely felony
At least according to a former Assistant Attorney General of Kentucky who primarily did criminal appellate litigation:

Based upon the video and assuming there is no exculpatory evidence not on the video, the perpetrator(s) would be well advised to get a first rate criminal attorney and start plea bargaining and hope they can do some time on a misdemeanor in the Fayette County jail. If the report is correct that the victim suffered a concussion, then a felony prosecution is very a distinct possibility. No competent defense attorney wants to cross examine that video.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/10/wheres_the_stompers_lawyer.php?ref=fpblg

And the sign the confessed perpetrator, Tim Profitt (of Paris, KY), carried at an earlier rally proclaiming "Bunning Will Not Let Congress Break the Law" is rich in its irony.

You certainly can point out how high level he was. My point is that if you say staffer, someone can sidetrack the whole point by arguing over whether he was a staff or a volunteer -- just like this -- rather than talking about how this scumbag needs to be cuffed and put in jail.

I do prefer the courts, but am not in favor of letting violent ragers run free if local officials won't do their job, any more than you would let a dog with rabies run down your country road out of the jurisdiction of animal control. I'd feel sorry for the dog, because the rabies weren't his fault, but this brownshirt has made his choice.

28. Wakeup Huffpo! This was not a "scuffle". It was assault and battery.
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 03:42 PM by avaistheone1
Definition of SCUFFLE
1
a : to struggle at close quarters with disorder and confusion
b : to struggle (as by working odd jobs) to get by

2
a : to move with a quick shuffling gait : scurry
b : shuffle
— scuffle noun

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/scuffle

Huffpo needs to clean up its act and not use the "scuffle" verbiage of FixedNews and AP.

This was not a game of touch football, or a couple of buddies scrambling for the bouquet after the bride's toss. This was the unprovoked attack on a defenseless woman who was thrown to the concrete, and then whose head and neck was stomped on by a grown man.

This is not a scuffle.

And the fact that she was "subdued" in the process of another assault only makes it worse, much, much worse. If this guy was any sort of a believer in tea party rhetoric, shouldn't he be accepting responsibility instead of making excuses? Paul is a hypacrit surrounded by cowardly bullies. 37. Rand Paul Curbstomper a Campaign Staffer
Source: Barefoot and Progressive

The curbstomper of a defenseless woman, as Jake has now definitively proved, is Tim Profitt.

According to the google machine, a man named Tim Profitt is Rand Paul's Bourbon County coordinator:

One of the people stalking the lobby was Tim Profitt, Rand Paul’s Bourbon County coordinator. “The true change is coming,” he said, applying President Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan to Paul. “The fact that they’ve ignored the Constitution on the federal level so much really bothers me,” he said.

(...)

Also, here's a photo from the AP earlier this year, identifying Tim Profitt:

Carrying lead when Paul supporters are around is one of my mineral rights.

57. I hope he is arrested, convicted and gets a good long jail sentence

And I hope the moveon protester sues the hell out of him and Rand Paul.

59. You mean the suspect didn't come forward on his own?
Good Christian that he no doubt is, I would have thought he would have come forward
on his own, full of contrition, begging his victim and the prosecutor for forgiveness.

That he did not is shocking, positively shocking, I tell you!

65. Fuck the summons.
Send two deputies out there to cuff him and drag his ass back to Lexington! None of this voluntary surrender bullshit.

If we send the SWAT team after a nonviolent drug offender, we can send deputies to pick up a violent thug.

78. Summons?
In my neck of the woods a summons is for civil cases & warrant for arrest for criminal, with the man ,guns, cuffs ,& all at your door ready to haul your ass to jail.

66. I'm very happy the police are doing their job on this!

It shouldn't be a surprise however since we really are supposed to be a Country of Laws. I guess the fact that so many of us thought no one would be detained for this criminal act shows how low this country has sunk and how our expectations have deteriorated.
