They take multiple x-rays while you're wearing the artificial limb! 10, and often 20 images!

The amount of radiation is estimated to be 20 times higher than reported by TSA.

Based on the number of x-rays, they estimate a couple trips could put you over the yearly limit. Nevermind that amputees already have xrays in a given year owing to their medical condition.
