Hustler's Larry Flynt wants to replace Davis
Larry C. Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine, says he wants to be the Democratic Party's standard bearer -- or maybe "barer" -- in the coming California recall election, and he's running for governor.

"They said that the person with the best name recognition stood the best shot, so why not?" said Flynt, 61, who has taken out papers to run for the state's top job. Speaking in a phone interview last night from his Los Angeles home, Flynt said his reason is simple: "I think I can do a better job balancing the budget than those bureaucrats in Sacramento."

1. Haha, that's beautiful.
He'd do a good job, too. I'd vote for him on principle. To prove that all politicians suck.

18. Actually Porn Hussler and Politician?
Isn't that virtually the same thing, with Flint running ahead of the lot in terms of credibility.

What a Joke it all really is!!

3. The whole recall is GOP pornogragphy, so why not?
The Hustler publisher says he will definitely pay the $3,500 filing fee to get his name on the ballot before the Aug. 9 deadline. But he's still working with experienced political consultants -- he won't mention names.

Anybody smell Dick Morris??

He deserves credit for exposing the hypocritical impeachers after all! Well, now it's fun!

Which is why it's an illegitimate recall.

7. Incorrect
The court the other day said you don't have to even vote on the recall to vote for a replacement.

8. Exactly! VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE: voting No doesn't disqualify
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 09:22 AM by robbedvoter
you for picking a replacement. The court order seems idiotic to me, but it's in place and I am worried about how many are unaware of it. Cali-DU-ers - if anything, find a way to educate voters of this. I am mostly worried about people thinking it's an either /or situation and prefer to pick a name rather than address the recall issue - although they are against it.

11. Voting NO on the recall never disqualified you from voting for the replace
The Right has been lying saying that if you voted No on the recall you couldn't vote for the replacement, but California law as clear on the issue, only requiring a vote on the recall issue (yes or no, it didn't matter) to be able to vote on the replacement.

The courts overturned this allowing you to vote for the replacement regardless of whether or not you vote for or against the recall.

12. Please keep this thread in GD on page one
I started it a couple of days ago trying to dispell the misinformation about only being elibible to vote for a replacement candidate if one votes Yes.

Californians may vote both NO on the recall AND for a replacement

One may vote for a replacement candidate regardless of how one votes on the recall question.

The misconception that one must vote Yes on the recall in order to have any say in who succeeds Davis should the recall question carry plays into the hands of the rightwing drivers of this abuse of direct democracy.

20. appropo indeed
farcical, absurd, satirical. A real morality play on ideologies, situational ethics, and pragamatic relativism.

Some might say brilliant. I say it plays to the LCD and completely works against evolution and consciencious transcendance. Than again, based on the role models, they are the saints and I am the freak.

Love those inversions.

13. 200 candidates!!! If the recall passes, the one with the greatest number
of votes becomes governor...even if that one out of 200 candidates gets only 5% of the vote. This is a travesty of the democratic process. That's why the Dems MUST turn out to vote and defeat the recall. We must keep Davis in his elected office.

Not saying that folks thinking of running are freaks - but there is a sort of carnival/circus gawking at sideshow effect to this whole recall effort.

19. Nah Salin when you factor in the Fascistic inversions evident here
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 02:14 PM by Wonder
you see you and I, we are the FREAKS... with what we all might mistake as the Freaks PR'd as the virtuoso's of truth justice equality family values and morality.

White is black and black is white. It is a guiding ethic of fascism aimed to create the kind of bi-polarity wherein those most susceptible to it are overtaken with anxiety and require government rescue from faceless evildoers.

And the question: Who is the enemy within? Is never asked or answered

16. I'd vote for him just to piss off the right wingers.
This would be pretty close to declaring civil war with the 'red' states. You know those "rugged individualist" states that receive more in federal transfer then they pay in in taxes. The bonesheads that gave us shrub for president.

24. Flynt could lose as did Kevorkian's sidkick in Michigan.
Geoffrey Feiger, lawyer to Jack Kevorkian (who killed a dying man on camera for 60 minutes) ran against our hated Republican Governor Engler.

ABE, Anyone But Engler, didn't work when it came to Feiger.

Republicans even headed a fake Democrat in order to take the vote away from long-time contender Owens allowing Feiger to win. Engler made a much easier win against Feiger.
