Mexico plans immigration shake-up
Source: washington post

Mexico plans a shake-up of its corruption-ridden immigration institute, officials said, after a year that saw some of the worst atrocities against illegal migrants trekking through the country - including the mass slaughter of 72 Central and South Americans trying to reach the United States.

The dismissals early this week will include several top directors of the National Institute for Migration, according to two government officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision has not been made public.

The government of President Felipe Calderon also plans to reform practices that have led to omissions, oversights and acts of corruption, though the officials didn't provide details.

The hardships migrants face in Mexico have long been a source of discomfort for a country that lobbies hard for better treatment of its own immigrants in the United States.

The shake-up comes less than two weeks after El Salvador reported the kidnapping of 50 migrants from a train in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

1. They aren't being kidnapped for money...
they're being kidnapped to provide slave labor on farms in southern Mexico - possibly factories, as well, but I know about the farms.

6. 'Sealed' trains?
So, the answer is like 'sealed trains' or 'protected corridors' to transport migrants from Central America to the U.S. ... right?

Oh, good. This is exactly what we need: even more exploitable workers to compete with here in the Wal-Mart States of America.

Calderon wants to keep the economic and political pressure off the ruling elite in Mexico by exporting his problems (unemployment, low wages, poor education, overpopulation) into the U.S.

(Get the irony here?)

Now he wants to help facilitate the refugees from the corrupt elites in Honduras, Guatemala, etc. into the U.S.

And, we actually have folks in this country who think this is a good idea.

9. Mexico does have quite a bit of nerve...
In demanding that their illegal immigrants have unfettered access to the US any time they want it while employing the most harsh, inhumane methods imaginable on illegal immigrants from South & Central America that are found in Mexico.

Where in America are there surplus jobs waiting for legal immigrants? In fact, I am not aware of any bottlenecks other than a long wait to become a legal citizen on the USA. In just about every civilized country you need lots of cash and a job waiting just to be considered.
