Boehner: Public Service Comes with Risk
Source: Wall Street Journal

Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) said Sunday morning that the “inhuman” shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others outside a Tucson, Ariz., supermarket this weekend “should not and will not deter us from our calling to represent our constituents and fulfill our oaths of office.”

“No act . . . must be allowed to stop us from our duty,” Mr. Boehner said during brief remarks at the West Chester, Ohio, Township Hall and Administration Offices. He echoed the sentiment he first expressed after the Saturday shooting that “an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve.” He also said the shooting reminds lawmakers that their job “comes with a risk.”

The newly sworn-in speaker reiterated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R., Va.) announcement that the House would suspend most legislative activity this week to focus solely on the shooting and its aftermath. Mr. Boehner said the majority leader would announce a revised schedule later today.

Yes.

The false equivalency has started right out of the gate.... with liberals gingerly tip toeing around the reality, showing they are still afraid of conservatives. On the CBS news this dinner-time, they talked about the "problem on both sides" and had some "R" comment on it being something that is a "problem" no matter what political persuasion you come from.

This simply isn't true.

Yes there are crazies and hot tempers on both sides, but...

we don't have Liberals wearing guns to rallies and calling for "2nd Amendment rights" just because who you didn't like got lawfully elected. We don't have an entire TV station on 24/7 with rhetoric about "baby killers" and calling for the death of Swiss citizens who leak info.
There ARE crazy liberals, but they simply do not have such an organized public support system

Crazy liberals encouraged to act violently are merely an annoyance on the Left. It IS a PROBLEM on the Right.

I repeat... a PROBLEM on the RIGHT.

14. Public Service may but what about the people who were shot
they were there to speak with their Congressperson. They were there because they needed help, wanted to ask her somthing or thank her for somthing. What part of the risk did a 9 year old girl take going to see her Congresswoman, what was the risk.....

What he's saying is that, unless you toe the RW line, you'll get shot. Hey, don't like it? Well, sorry, but your position "comes with a risk" from our Sturmabteilung.

21. he's right. there've been multiple threats to congress members since health care reform
and an assassination attempt on GW Bush in May 2005 while he was in Georgia (country). And during the 2008 campaign some fools made threats against then-Senator/candidate Obama...in Tennessee and in Denver before the '08 Dem Convention.

In December, a mentally ill man in San Francisco named Gregory Lee Giusti was sent to federal prison for making threatening phone calls to Nancy Pelosi.
