Harper blames Dupnik for Giffords shooting
Source: AzCentral.com

While her doctors sounded an optimistic tone on U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' recovery, the political discourse is growing harsher.

State Rep. Jack Harper, R-Surprise, partly blamed the shooting on Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who has himself blamed caustic political rhetoric and lax gun-control as contributing to the massacre.

"If he would have done his job, maybe this doesn't happen," Harper told USA Today on Monday. "Sheriff Dupnik did not provide for the security of a U.S. congresswoman."

"When everyone is carrying a firearm, nobody is going to be a victim," Harper continued. "The socialists of today are only one gun confiscation away from being the communists of tomorrow."

Is he actually calling himself Crazy Jack? Give him credit for truth in advertising, I guess, but seriously, THIS:

"Sheriff Dupnik did not provide for the security of a U.S. congresswoman."

"When everyone is carrying a firearm, nobody is going to be a victim," Harper continued.

means, what? The sheriff should have been handing out handguns at the door???
:wtf:

21. EPIC FAIL with the Cold War smear, but he still let the cat out of the bag.
'State Rep. Jack Harper, R-Surprise, partly blamed the shooting on Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who has himself blamed caustic political rhetoric and lax gun-control as contributing to the massacre.'

In other words, don't you DARE mention the 'caustic political rhetoric and lax gun-control' or you're a pinko, socialist, gay, illegal, babykilling, liberal, progressive, feminazi, godless commie!

Which means it's all your fault... Global warming, pollution, wars, the price of gas/land/electricity/food, etc.!

The RW is never, ever to blame, and besides 'guns don't kill people, people kill people!'

Well, there is something to be said for that second part...

How many cats and dogs use firearms?

24. What this poor excuse for a human fails to mention.....
....is that the sheriff's job is to allow persons in the state of Arizona to go armed to the teeth because people like him passed such lack gun control laws. Laws which have allowed a head cases like this young punk to seriously injure several people, to end six other people's lives.

- Assholes like this guy are scurrying around trying their best to deflect responsibility because they can't wash the blood off their hands.

"As I look out the window, I see a very beautiful planet that seems very inviting and peaceful, unfortunately, it is not. These days, we are constantly reminded of the unspeakable acts of violence and damage we can inflict upon one another, not just with our actions, but also with our irresponsible words. We're better than this. We must do better."

~ Commander Scott Kelly, Brother-in-law to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords from the International Space Station

19. Essentially it is ... they represent the gun manufacturers ... and they helped GOP TARGET
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 09:02 PM by defendandprotect
Dem liberals and moderates -- as well as their own moderates --

People go out and buy guns because they fear others with guns -- or because

right wing is telling them they have a lot to FEAR and need a gun.

Right wing continues to create its own image in our society -- violence!

A lot of GOP/right wing money involved in keeping this going --

There is only one way the right wing can rise and that's via political violence.

Well ... that and stolen elections and lies --

MIHOP 9/11 --

It's a much bigger issue than just the GOP. Heck, Rep. Giffords supposedly had a permit to carry.

36. The public -- and police -- want gun control. We're insane to go on this way ....
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 11:20 AM by defendandprotect
Unfortunately, too often threads that are begun to restore sanity re guns and

to speak for gun control are immediately attacked. Many posters don't want to

deal with that much aggression on any issue and they just move away from the OP.

Historically the 2nd amendment has been recognized for what it is -- a limited

right -- not a license for a Wild West America.

The illusion the GOP/NRA tries to sell now is that we are all safer when everyone

has a gun -- especially a secret gun which can be taken anywhere.

Meanwhile, as I've noted before this GOP/NRA issue has also targeted liberals and

moderates in the Democratic Party -- so when we lose on other issues we can also look

to the GOP/NRA for hsving moved the Democratic Party to the right.

As we can see on pretty much ALL of the other issues, those in office now are doing

just the opposite of what the people want.

Only the right wing wins on this issue -- and, of course, that "win" was put in place

by right wing fanatics on the Supreme Court.

:)

17. When too many are carrying guns -- what can you do until they pull it?

In Arizona, one can parade around with a gun or two strapped to their legs with relative impunity. So, until one pulls his/her weapon and fires, they are basically a law-abiding citizen (parading around with a gun). Law enforcement is basically powerless.

27. Jack Harper, Republican from Surprise AZ, comments come as No Surprise!
This is typical of the Republicans in control of Arizona. No where did Sheriff Dubnik cite a specific person, media personality or party, yet Harper, Kyl, McCain, Megyn Kelley, etc., etc., etc., jumped in and proved his point. Thou protest to much???

Census figure for Surprise 15,000 less than estimate from county
Erin Zlomek
The Arizona Republic
Jul. 3, 2007 08:25 AM

The latest U.S. Census update is out, and although it pegs Surprise about 15,000 residents shy of what is estimated by Maricopa County, it shows that the city's population surged 178.5 percent since 2000.

The Census update places the city's population at 85,914 as of July 2006. However, as of September 2005, Maricopa County estimated the city had 88,265 residents, and city officials say that figure grew to slightly over 100,000 residents by last November.

38. Actually the crazies are running government -- when you base everything on
the yardstick of a dollar bill, you're crazy!

And, that's what capitalism does.

Capitalism is exploitation of everything -- nature and humans!

If you can make a pile of bucks selling guns that kill people -- what the heck!!

And if you can make a bigger pile of bucks selling guns if you can bribe and

buy candidates -- what the heck, twice!!
