Astrology is a science: Bombay HC
Source: Times of India

MUMBAI: Astrology has been debunked by most world scientists including India's renowned physicist Prof. Yash Pal. However, it is "science" in India.

The Bombay High Court reaffirmed this on Thursday when it dismissed a PIL that had challenged astrology as science.

The PIL was filed by an NGO, Janhit Manch that had sought action against 'fake' astrologers, tantriks, practitioners of Vastu shastra etc.

"So far as prayer related to astrology is concerned, the Supreme Court has already considered the issue and ruled that astrology is science. The court had in 2004 also directed the universities to consider if astrology science can be added to the syllabus. The decision of the apex court is binding on this court," observed the judges.

Which kind of Astrology?

I'm sure the Hindu variety is not like our Greco-Roman version, or the Chinese version, or the Aztec version, or any of the myriad of versions every ancient civilization made up.

If it's the year of the rat, and Mars is in the 7th house with the moon rising in your sign, does that mean that the world will be destroyed in 2012 by Shiva?

10. Astrologists are fighting a soul-eating demon called "statistics".
Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 06:21 PM by DetlefK
This is a run-of-the-mill problem for any experimentalist: How do I know, which of two theories (astrology <-> random distribution) fits best to my data?
There are several mathematical/computational methods to discern this, and I bet none of those are taught in astrology class.

Imagine an astrologist accuses his rival: "Your predictions are not better than random predictions and my calculations prove it." :D

19. Scientists are trying to use rational tools to measure
a phenomenon that is transrational.

A lot like using a ruler to measure how heavy something is. Cluelessness exists.

Meh.
