For the first time ever, the Democratic National Convention will not accept donations from corporations, PACs or federal lobbyists in 2012.

Individual contributions also will be capped — another first — at $100,000, according to the contract governing the convention.

Democrats say the policy is in keeping with the fundraising focus that powered President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign.

“From the very beginning, President Obama has placed a high priority on increasing the influence of grassroots and individual donors, and this convention will go further in that direction than any convention ever,” Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse said

It's a good start. What we really need is for EVERY elected official and candidate who calls themself a Democrat to reject corporate money as well.

Oh, and publicly funded campaigns.

The health insurance companies love it because now we'll be forced to buy their products no matter how shitty they are.

The only thing the object to are the minimal controls placed on their ability to raise rates and deny coverage - and they're already figuring out ways to beat the system.

Gone will be contributions such as the $1.7 million Cisco Systems gave the party's 2008 convention in Denver.

Corporations will still be able to give so-called in-kind contributions such as communications equipment, office space and technology. It also appears they can donate cash beyond the $37 million threshold.

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic National Committee plans to pay for its 2012 convention nominating President Barack Obama without donations from political action committees or corporations, a change from past gatherings.

The DNC said Friday that the convention would be the first financed by grass-roots activists and rank-and-file party members. DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse says the funding for the Charlotte, N.C., event would underscore the theme of the "People's Convention."

In addition to banning all cash from registered lobbyists, the DNC also plans to ban donations of more than $100,000.

Since taking over the DNC, Obama's team has refused donations from lobbyists or political action committees. The party's central committee ended the year with almost $16 million in loans and debt, and $6 million in the bank.

....so, they're planning on balancing their rubber-stamping conventions' budget on the backs of the grassroots and the Party faithful....corporate America should really pick up the tab for this since their man has no challenger....
