Obama lauds Medal of Freedom recipients

former President George H.W. Bush and 13 others received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor for contributions to society.

Some of the loudest applause was for Bush, who has devoted nearly 70 of his 86 years to public service

"His life is a testament that public service is a noble calling," Obama said. Bush's wife, Barbara, and their children listened from the front row. "His humility and his decency reflect the very best of the American spirit. Those of you who know him, this is a gentleman."

Wow, really Mr. President?
George H.W Bush is a gentleman and so much of a big public servant that he deserves a medal of freedom?

I do not know what to say....Really?
How can a mass murderer and someone who signed so many executive orders deserve such a honorable applause and a medal of freedom?

Bush & Sons belongs in Jail as well as Cheney!!!!!!
Throw in many in blackwater & KBR as well!

6. Aha!
You are correct, I missed that
I tend to look at them as one abomination forget they are two
Though the sons do not share the sins of the father, sometimes they do magnify them and become even worse!

13. Yeah, it's the Stockholm Syndrome
The more they abuse him, the more he sides with them. He should be smarter than that. Does he have an overwhelming need to be liked?

14. Well, it's a small club.
In the end, they all become buddies. The Bushes "adopted" Bill Clinton and it looks that they just adopted Obama.

:D

16. I'm surprised Obama forgot to mention Bush's deft negotiating skills...
In 1980, according to Barbara Honegger - a former aide in the Reagan administration - George HW Bush traveled to Paris to arrange a deal whereby the Iranians were bribed with money and promised the first shipment of the guns they got via Colonel Ollie North. According to Honegger, this was at the time by no means a 'guns-for-hostages' deal, but precisely the reverse. The condition of the bribe and gun deal was the Iranians promised TO NOT RELEASE their American hostages until after the election, so Carter would look ineffectual and Reagan would come into office in an aura of triumph.

Three cheers for George HW Bush, everyone! A true American hero!

17. I read something about it.
It was too coincidental that Iran released the hostages minutes after Reagan was sworn in as president in 1981. It also led to the sell of arms to Iran starting in 1985, what became known as the Iran-Contra affair. Yeah, pretty unsavory business.

:-(

20. With a few notable exceptions this is no more absurd than Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
