Stepmom indicted in N.C. girl's death
Source: CNN

Elisa Baker, the stepmother of 10-year-old Zahra Baker, was indicted Monday on second-degree murder charges in the girl's death, a Catawba County, North Carolina, court clerk told CNN.

The family made international news late last year after the freckled-faced young girl went missing from their home in Hickory, North Carolina.

The girl lost part of her left leg at age 5 and lost hearing in both ears while being treated for cancer.

2. More info on Elisa ...
<snip>

The indictment cites aggravating factors, saying Elisa Baker had a history of physically, verbally and psychologically abusing Zahra. And it says she desecrated Zahra's body to hinder detection and prosecution of the killing.

<snip>

Records show the 42-year-old led a somewhat nomadic life, with dozens of different addresses over a seven-year period. She was also married seven times and was wed to more than one man on several occasions. She met Adam Baker, seven years her junior, on a website where users create three-dimensional characters to represent themselves.

Adam Baker is free on bond, facing numerous charges not related to his daughter, who needed a prosthetic leg and two hearing aids because of a battle with cancer. He moved to North Carolina with Zahra from Australia after meeting Elisa online.

3. When I hear stories like this....
I think of the parable of the sower....

"And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: a sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."—Luke 8:4-8.

Some kids, like seeds, never get a chance. They just need a new life.

4. What about the father?...
Why no indictment on him? I always thought if he wasn't involved in the murder, he had knowledge of the abuse by the step mother or first hand knowledge of the murder and the subsequent cover up.

5. It's a start
Glad to hear she finally got indicted. Maybe the father will follow soon. Such a horrible sad story.

6. No punishment...
...will ever be enough for this woman.

She could be tortured for years and I would still think it was not enough. I weep when I hear of the abuse Zahra Baker endured...
