U.S. Presses Tobacco Firms to Admit to Falsehoods About Light Cigarettes and Nicotine Addiction
Source: New York Times

A federal judge on Wednesday unsealed a government proposal that outlines what it wants tobacco companies to say in national advertising and on cigarette packages — that they lied to the American public about so-called light cigarettes and the addictiveness of nicotine.

Judge Gladys Kessler of the United States District Court in Washington denied a request by the tobacco companies that the recommendations, by the Justice Department, be kept secret until they submitted a response.

The so-called corrective statements were ordered as part of a civil racketeering judgment in 2006 in which Judge Kessler ruled against the tobacco companies, saying they had lied for 50 years. The statements are to appear in newspaper and magazine advertising and in attachments to cigarette packages.

Judge Kessler is also deciding how the advertisements should be displayed at retail outlets. She is expected to set a schedule Thursday for the response from the companies and her decision.

Well, I always knew that Truth and Science were merely shills for the Smoking Nazi Lobby. :P

Even more sad-- my addiction is stronger than my current willpower and I'm back up to 1/2 pack a day... I'm obviously a traitor to the righteous cause

ed: left out 'pack' :eyes:

2. Will the U.S. FDA tell the truth about the deadly chemicals they've added to FSC Cigs?
That's Fire Safe Cigarettes, which not only have toxic carpet glue (ethylene vinyl acetate) in the papers BUT also have increased levels of other toxic chemicals --probably added to the tobacco itself.

The Harvard School of Health reported that when comparing NY Cigarettes (FSC) versus Regular Cigarettes (before ALL cigs in the US were FSC), the FSC cigarettes produced 13.9% more Naphthalene and 11.4% more carbon monoxide than regular cigarettes.

Naphthalene is commonly found in moth balls, and exposure in high amounts can result in headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, confusion, anemia, jaundice, convulsions, and coma. Therefore, it has been proven that FSC cigarettes contain higher levels of chemicals that are harmful to smokers.”

Symptoms include:
Nausea, sores in mouth and throat, dry throat, constant headaches, extreme coughing, tightness in the chest, vomiting, body aches, pain in the abdomen and respiratory conditions including asthma and bronchitis. Other symptoms include allergic reactions such as hives or worse, palpitations...
