G20 public inquiry needed: report
Source: CBC News

A full-scale public inquiry is needed in light of the widespread and violent trampling of civil rights by police at last summer's G20 summit in Toronto, a report concludes.

The call for an inquiry is among recommendations in the report — by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and National Union of Public and General Employees — which is aimed at holding governments accountable and avoiding a recurrence.

"The many violations of civil liberties that occurred during the summit, such as illegal detentions and searches and excessive uses of force, cannot have simply been the actions of a few bad apples," the report states.

"Rather, given the scope and severity of the violations of rights that occurred during the G20, it is difficult to view this situation as anything other than a failure of policy and training."

1. Yes.
I firmly believe there were orders for excessive force, and they came from the top. The police told us where to avoid.....including in the eaton's centre, and could time the 'riots' which I found interesting.

3. I agree
"I firmly believe there were orders for excessive force, and they came from the top."

I also firmly believe that the cops intentionally stood aside and did nothing to prevent the rioters going on that initial rampage, burning cop cars and destroying store windows etc. in order to ensure they (i.e. the cops) would have some degree of public sympathy/support when they started kicking in heads and arresting the peaceful, non violent protesters by the busload later on. The public at large, going by what they had seen on the TV news, would tend to say,"Oh well, those protesters deserve to get roughed up; just look at all the property they damaged and destroyed when they were not confronted in a forceful manner by the police to stop their rioting." And of course, given what happened at Montebello, I would not be surprised if there were undercover agents provocateurs in the crowd that ensured the initial riot would get off to a rousing start.

It was all planned to shut down dissent and to discourage the public from gathering together and taking to the streets (both on this occasion and future occasions as well) to air their grievances and their opposition to the economic policies that many people feel are being forced on us by politicians responding to the wishes of large corporations and powerful financial interests rather than to the electorate.

2. Check this link for 2 videos on the Toronto Cops police state type tactics at the G20
This is the link to the DU videos forum where I posted a 45min CBC Fifth Estate program which examined the systematic and repeated over the top behavior of the cops at the Toronto G20 and also in the comments on that thread there is a link to a 2hr documentary on the same topic:

7. This is why the 2nd Amendment is critically important
The 2nd Amendment is not about red necks or anarchy or keeping guns in the hands of people for the sake of guns. It is ultimately about the rights of people protecting themselves from the abuse of illegal goons who believe they have a right to abuse the people under the false umbrella of a corrupt government.

We've seen it happen all over the world.
