Indiana Secretary of State White Charged With Vote Fraud
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 04:39 PM by cal04

Indiana's Republican Secretary of State Charlie White was charged with voter fraud, Indiana officials said Thursday.

Indiana State Rep. Charlie Brown, a Democrat, said White should resign following charges that he intentionally voted in the wrong precinct during the May 2010 primary.

Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma described the indictment of White as "unfortunate."

An assistant at the secretary of state's office in Indianapolis said neither the secretary nor his press spokesperson was available for comment.

1. BEAUTIFUL! These wingnuts are always screaming "voter fraud"
and pointing their finger at the left, but in the end, it's people like this guy and Ann Coulter that emerge as guilty parties!

18. In our state, TN, it was the president of the Federation of GOP Woman
I couldn't believe it when I first read it.

She actually voted twice. Once in her district and once, under another name, in a different district.

And the charged her.

And the GOP here has been screaming voter fraud.

2. Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White indicted
Source: Indianapolis Star

The state’s top election official will face seven felony counts, including voter fraud, perjury and theft, a special prosecutor said today.

Secretary of State Charlie White was accused of intentionally voting in the wrong precinct during the May 2010 primary, a potential felony.

If ultimately convicted of a felony, White would have to give up the position that he won by a wide margin over Democrat Vop Osili in November’s election.
White has admitted to voting in a district where he no longer lived. The registered address was a home he had shared on and off with his now ex-wife until 2009.

Local news is reporting that White is at the Hamilton County jail, although they've not seen him.

These allegations were mentioned during the general election but of course, he's a Republican so he won the office.

5. "unfortunate"
WTF?

"unfortunate"?

"unfortunate" is when your tire blows out on the Golden Gate Bridge. An indictment for the crime that your party is most obsessed with is not "unfortunate".

These people simply blow me away.

13. What's unfortunate, I think, is this...
Had Indiana voters any sense, they'd have voted for the Democrat rather than anyone with an (R) after his name. Because they waited until after the election to do the right thing, instead of the voters selecting a non-criminal as Secretary of State we'll have the Republicans appoint one instead.

So what's unfortunate is that we'll get a Republican-appointed SOS rather than an elected SOS.

10. AP: Indiana Elections Chief Charged With Voter Fraud
Indiana Elections Chief Charged With Voter Fraud
Indiana elections chief charged with voter fraud for allegedly listing ex's home as own
The Associated Press
By CHARLES WILSON Associated Press

A prosecutor says a grand jury has indicted the Indiana's top elections official on seven felony counts, including voter fraud and perjury.

Special prosecutor John Dowd said Thursday that Republican Secretary of State Charlie White faces three counts of voter fraud and two counts of perjury for listing his ex-wife's home in Fishers when voting in the May primary instead of his actual address.

White also faces a theft charge for allegedly remaining on and collecting a salary from the Fishers town council after moving out of town. And he faces a financial fraud charge for allegedly lying under oath about his address on a home loan.

White has previously attributed the voting mixup to his busy schedule at the time. His spokesman had no immediate comment.

14. So it was more than voter fraud - theft and financial fraud also for lying about his residence.
It should be noted that this is a lot more than just being lazy about changing his address and voting in the wrong precinct - as bad as that is for someone running for a position with the duty of upholding election law.

17. He is an arrogant ass.
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 06:06 PM by AngryOldDem
His fraud was so blatant that there was no way he could escape indictment. I wouldn't have voted for him for town office (I live in the town where he was on the council) because of this crap, yet he had the unmitigated gall to run for state office.

EDIT: More unintended hilarity, from the local news. The state GOP chairman says these charges are "disappointing" and that White should take a leave of absence...I can buy into that...what's the maximum sentence for election fraud and other criminal counts?
