Attempt to free Danish family from Somalia fails

MOGADISHU, Somalia — A pirate and a security official say an attempt to free a Danish family from Somali pirates has failed.

Pirate Bile Hussein says that armed forces from Somalia's semiautonomous northern region of Puntland tried to free the family Thursday evening but were beaten back near Hul Anod village. He says some government forces were killed and others were captured but did not give exact figures.
