Federal raids hit medical marijuana shops around Montana Monday morning, causing an uproar in a community already roiled by high-profile attempts to regulate it.

"The timing is impeccable," said Chris Lindsey, a Missoula attorney who specializes in medical marijuana cases, about the fact that the raids unfolded as a state Senate committee deadlocked on a bill to repeal the 2004 voter initiative that legalized marijuana.

"They're seizing everything - plants, marijuana, grow equipment, files and computers. It's very, very broad in its scope," Lindsey said, who retains a lingering business interest in Montana Cannabis, one of the businesses where federal search warrants were executed.

... The federal warrants are sealed, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Helena.

3. This is not good
They're going to lose a lot of political capital here. Presumably they think the intelligence they can gather is going to be worth it, because it's the only benefit they get.

How's the hunt for counterfeit perscription drugs, which HAVE killed people, going.

You burn weed and return dangerous, deadly phony pharaceuticals.

Excuse me, but :wtf:

How is this making us safer?

ENOUGH! LEGALIZE!

5. This is so WRONG. What country are we living in???
Edited on Mon Mar-14-11 07:33 PM by slay
where they can come and take a medicine that some people DESPERATELY need? Make no mistake - this is an attack, on American citizens, by our government!

I have a very good friend who has had AIDS since the 80's and I can say for a fact she would be dead if it were not for marijuana.

If Obama won't stand up for us, then my vote in 2012 will go to whoever will legalize marijuana - or at the very least for medical. :grr:
SCREW THE DEA!

9. As many of his supporters have repeatedly stated...
whatever Obama campaigned on is irrelevant.

12. Doesn't that mean what he tells us in his NEXT campaign is irrelevant, too?
Another way to say that would be, "then why the blue fuck should I believe anything he has to say when he campaigns in 2012?"

13. In 2012 you'll have 4 years of reality. Isn't that more relevant than promises ?
Or will it just matter that he's better than the Republican choice ?

15. A privatized prison system does.
Like Arizona and Brewer. Having a stake in the prisons makes one all high and law and order mighty!

11. Feds raid Helena medical marijuana greenhouse with 'guns drawn'
Source: Associated Press

... Agents near Helena burst into Montana Cannabis' greenhouse, where the company grows more than 1,600 plants for its four stores across the state. The greenhouse runs about half the length of a football field and is packed with marijuana plants that can be seen from U.S. Highway 12.

About 15 workers were inside the warehouse during the morning raid. Montana Cannabis employee Brett Thompson, 30, said he stepped outside to smoke a cigarette and saw agents running up the driveway.

"They came in, guns drawn, got us down on the ground and in cuffs as fast as they could," Thompson said.

Federal agents detained Thompson and his co-workers in handcuffs outside the greenhouse, where sheriff's deputies and Helena police officers stood guard. Inside, agents in DEA and FBI jackets wearing respirator masks and blue gloves yanked waist-high plants from their pots and hauled them out of sight wrapped in blue tarps.

17. Obama Sucks
BO is starting to make Bush look good. Obama is a closet rightwinger with a chronic case of Stockholm syndrome ala Patty Hearst. I'll have to find a so-called "fringe candidate," in 2012. 5 years on the road, homeless and broke down, and Obama shows he's just another rich rightwing liar. I fucking give up.

20. I would say this was stupid if it were not veering into malicious territory
Prosecutors like one thing - convictions. They will get a lot of them out of this.

BUT

Convictions do not mean a safer society. All of those licensed and bonded growers and sellers in Montana (f'ning Montana!) sure are a menace!

Stop this shit, now. Being a pothead is not a crime.

21. The Audacity of Hope
Bush, Cheney walk free; medical marijuana sellers go to jail. Keep hoping for change!

By the way, does anyone else see the monumental hypocristy of jailing people selling pot when the President himself admits to using it in his youth? So, it's OK for Obama and not for anyone else?
