Union official: GM will recall 2,000 workers
Source: Detroit News

General Motors Co. will recall the final 2,000 workers on lay off by fall, Joe Ashton, UAW vice president in charge of GM and gaming locals, said today.

"Those people will all be back at work in September," Ashton said at the UAW bargaining convention in Detroit. The three-day event for more than 1,200 delegates and others wraps up Thursday.

Once all workers are recalled, new hires can be brought in at a lower wage that is about half the rate of existing workers. The two-tier wage system is part of the current national agreement.

Ashton said that while the union has had success stories, such as shifting work from South Korea to the Lake Orion plant, creating 1,000 U.S. jobs, three plants are seeking new product contracts.

7. Brother just bought a new Malibu
Fantastic price and had a good sales' relationship. And he looked at Toyotas, Hondas, etc. He is very, very pleased. I have to admit that neither my brother or me would have bought a GM product 10 years ago or so. But our minds are changed now.
