Democrats: We have the signatures in Kapanke recall effort
Source: La Crosse Tribune

La Crosse area Democrats say they will file petitions today with enough signatures to trigger a recall election of Sen. Dan Kapanke, one of eight Senate Republicans targeted over votes to curtail collective bargaining rights for public workers. If approved, it would be just the fifth recall election of a Wisconsin legislator.

Recall organizer Pat Scheller said volunteers have gathered more than the 15,588 signatures needed and that they plan to take them to Madison after a noon rally today at La Crosse City Hall.
It is expected to be the first completed of 19 active recall efforts registered between Feb. 24 and March 2 against 16 senators.

Kapanke did not return messages Thursday, but has said the recall is “part of the process.”

2. 1 down, 7 to go
I'm heading down to the rally. Definitely historic, but not as historic as kicking Hanky-Panky Kapanke's ass to the curb will be.

3. Wisconsin Democrats to file first recall petition
Source: Politico

Democrats in Wisconsin say they have enough signatures to file a petition to launch a recall effort against state Sen. Dan Kapanke, one of eight Republicans being targeted for his vote to restrict collective bargaining for most public sector works in the state.

Recall organizer Pat Scheller told the La Crosse Tribune that volunteers have collected more than the 15,588 signatures needed to trigger a recall and will file the petition in Madison on Friday.

Kapanke said early last month that he expected Democrats to push for his recall but was “willing to stand up and take that vote” in favor of the collective bargaining bill even if it meant having his seat challenged. He did not immediately respond to POLITICO’s request for comment.

Wisconsin Democrats offered infrastructure support but did not send “a single paid canvasser” to the district, state Democratic Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski told the Tribune. Volunteers collected more than 20,000 signatures in under 30 days, he said.

The filing will start a 31-day period during which the state’s Government Accountability Board will examine the signatures. Kapanke can challenge the signatures during the first 10 days of that period, and Republicans, Democrats or the board itself can request more time to assess the filing.

6. Only takes three to flip the Senate, but remember three Democrats need to be elected.
With eight Republicans being focused on, I do like the odds.

7. Kapanke is my state senator and I signed the recall petition weeks ago.
It would be a big honor here in the La Crosse area to have the first recall election and to bring down Kapanke. That would send a message to Walker and his minions and inspire the recall elections that follow.

We can do this. Now we need to show up and vote in big numbers.

14. WTF are you on about?
It is always so refreshing to get wonderful insights into our electoral processes from outside, since most Wisconsinites are barely competent to tie their shoes and really benefit from guidance in all things.

Would you care to delve into your bottomless pools of wisdom and provide some specific instructions to us stupid Cheeseheads on how to speed up the process?

The petition has been filed. The election will be held within the time limits specified by law.

18. So, will Danny boy be filing for unemployment after he is kicked to the curb?
That would be awfully hypocritical of him.

Ya know, Dan...ya shouldn't have messed with those nice working folks.

Might be a good idea for you to start sending out resumes now.

It's a tough job market out there.
