Gingrich's financial angel — a casino mogul with legal woes
Source: MSNBC

As he prepares to launch a campaign for president, Newt Gingrich is counting on the backing of an unusually powerful behind-the-scenes donor: a billionaire casino mogul whose business empire stretches from the Palazzo on Las Vegas’s famous Strip to the Chinese gambling hub of Macau.

Gingrich’s financial angel is the publicity-shy Sheldon Adelson, chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., and the fifth wealthiest man in America as recently ranked by Forbes Magazine.

Adelson, who has an estimated net worth of over $23 billion, has personally pumped $7 million over the past five years into Gingrich’s main political advocacy organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future. His contributions account for more than 10 percent of all the organization's funds and have helped the former speaker promote his conservative causes and stay in the public eye.

Adelson has also provided Gingrich the use of his aircraft for travel at times, according to a report today by the Center for Public Integrity.

2. "American Solutions for Winning the Future"--umm, so Pres. Obama's
new mantra and working motto is not so original.

4. Anyone who owns an interest in casinos is by definition
only interested in taking others for their hard-earned cash.

9. Gingrich excels at disinformation through language use.
Edited on Sat Apr-02-11 05:54 AM by sofa king
Recall that while he was banging his intern through the Lewinsky saga, Gingrich made it a point to mention the Lewinsky scandal in every single press conference he held.

Gingrich's evil GOPAC produced a pamphlet called, Language, a Key Mechanism of Control. In it, he offered a list of "governing words" which a candidate should reserve for one's self, and "name-calling words" to use against the opposition. You still see both of those lists being used every week by the GOP, Gingrich, and Fox News. Some examples of good-for-me words (edit: with my own gloss in parentheses):

Fair (unfair)
Family (corporation)
Freedom (reduction of)
Hard work (golf)
Help (none)
Humane (insert "in" at the front)
Incentive (profit)
Initiative (witch-hunt)
Lead (the elevated levels in your tap water)
Learn (believe)

Note how not one of those words describes things that the GOP cares about. Think Clear Skies, Healthy Forests, Bush's embarrassing "hard work" debate, and so on. Now for the name-calling:

Betray
Coercion
Collapse
Consequences
Corruption
Crisis
Decay
Deeper
Destroy

All of which are words which can be applied quite well to the state we're in as a result of Republican policies. Huxley would have approved.

10. He and Frank Luntz
It was the tag-team of Newt and Frank that conjured up that 'Contract with America' back in 1994.

3. Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned casinos should not be legal
anywhere. The casino bosses prey on the poor seeking a peek at glamor and excitement. Gambling is a terrible habit.

7. the pacifier of the poor
= gambling.

These casinos seem to be popping up almost everywhere. I find it incredulous!

You never read about the suicide in their parking lot, you only hear about it.

11. the irony that Newt has a casino mongrel financing him and Trump couldn't run a casino at all
I think this is an insight into the actual Republican heart - maybe they want to start giving the people the option of taking their pay in scratch lottery tickets......hell it has to work better than anything else they have ever tried.

"Billionaire Backer Of Right-Wing Causes Is Down On His Luck
