Ivory Coast: '800 die in Ivory Coast ethnic violence'
Source: BBC

At least 800 people have been killed in the western Ivory Coast city of Duekoue this week, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said.

They died in inter-communal violence in one district of the city, it added.

The head of the ICRC delegation in the country said the event was particularly shocking in its scale and brutality.

Fighting has continued in Abidjan between forces loyal to the UN-recognised president Alassane Ouattara and the incumbent, Laurent Gbagbo.

11. How would you feel if the UN did pass a military intervention resolution?
In other words, are you against the attack on Libya, or are you for attacking the Ivory Coast? Vice versa?

9. Yup.
"Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different."
-President Obama

After we invade the chocolate factories to save the children, does that mean we invade the Nike factories next?

13. I would say nobody saw this coming
I read this;

"The ICRC said delegates and volunteers from the Ivorian Red Cross had visited Duekoue on Thursday and Friday to gather evidence of the killings, which are believed to have taken place on Tuesday.
"Everything seems to indicate that this was inter-ethnic violence, there is no doubt that something on a large scale took place in this city, on which the ICRC is continuing to gather information," ICRC spokeswoman Dorothea Krimitsas told the AFP News agency".

In Libya it was different; the rebel army was coming across the desert and getting gunned down by war planes and all that. In the Ivory Coast it was inter-communal violence and the story is still coming out.

How long was the ruckus going on in Libya before the UN stepped in?

14. Oh FFS, this HAS been occurring! I've even heard it on NPR
which is a master at "coming late to the party". Ofeibea Quist-Arcton shockingly enough has actually gotten REAL airtime for the problems in Ivory Coast.

Please, please, please read up on it! Even the BBC has had reporters there since the beginning. This has been well covered. The massacres have simply been ignored by US mainstream media...
