DOH confirms 4 cases of dengue fever on Oahu, more pending

Snip < he Department of Health says: it's an outbreak. There are now FOUR confirmed cases of dengue fever on Oahu – with results of 12 more suspected cases still pending. But, health officials are hoping this epidemic can be contained to small numbers.


Snip< y the way, dengue cannot be spread from person to person. Symptoms include fever; severe headache, eye, joint and muscle pain, and a rash on the hands, arms, legs and feet. It could take up to 15 days for the symptoms to manifest. To protect yourself, health experts recommend wearing a mosquito repellant containing the chemical Deet.

1. there quite a strong outbreak of this around the world this last year...
a friend of mine caught it when visiting Pakistan during the monsoon.

2. my ex got denghi in Bali during a trip there many years ago
OMG....the poor guy. covered with rash and hives...he was miserable and sick. didn't get out of bed for days.

Seems that everything - the economics and the proliferation of diseases (polio, measles, TB, dengue, etc), is reverting back to what it was in the early 20th century. :(

it even has Pearlridge Mall. Last time dengue hit Hawai'i, it was centered in a small, isolated East Maui village, Keanae. The village was basically quarantined, with the one road in and out blocked off. :scared:

Also, "HawaiiNewsNow" can be read as "HawaiiNewSnow". :-)

No vaccine for dengue that I know of. Probably because, until just the past few years, it's only affected the Global South, so why bother to develop one? :sarcasm:
