‘Sweet Micky’ Martelly reportedly wins Haiti election

PORT-AU-PRINCE -- A carnival singer who reinvented himself into a polished political outsider is poised to become Haiti’s new president, according to several sources familiar with the results that are expected to be released later Monday.

Michel “Sweet Micky’’ Martelly, 50, has received more than the required 50 percent plus one of the vote required to beat longtime opposition leader and former first lady Mirlande Manigat to win Haiti’s first presidential runoff election in a quarter century. Martelly reportedly won the election by a 3-1 margin.

The preliminary results of Haiti’s March 20 elections were transmitted at 8 a.m. Monday to the executive director of the Provisional Electoral Council, whose members triggered momentary panic Sunday evening when they unexpectedly showed up at the vote tabulation center where tally sheets were undergoing a final scrutiny for fraud.

The second round of elections for the presidential and legislative races were better organized than the first round. But like the chaotic Nov. 28 first round, the runoffs were also marred by fraud and irregular voting.

1. Where are Clinton and Bush? Shouldn't Jimmy Carter have been there to watch the voting?

Why is it that Haiti has to suffer this constant hell. So much money raised yet so little spent (according to McClatchy investigation) and now they have a crappy fraudulent election and not a word from Bush/Clinton who are in charge of aid to Haiti or from President Carter who has gone around the world supervising that other elections in unstable places were conducted fairly.

2. Jimmy Carter Can't be Everywhere

Jimmy Carter is certainly the best former President in living memory.
He is getting old though, and he can't be everywhere.

3. I don't think there's any indication that the election was fraudulent.

That is, I don't think anyone is suggesting that the outcome is other than what the public voted for, but that within the election there were some cases of fraud, but not so much as to effect the outcome.

After The Miami Herald first reported the results Monday, Manigat’s campaign sent a letter to the minister of justice accusing Elections Council President Gaillot Dorsinvil of influencing the results during a late Sunday night visit to the vote tabulation center.

That is the background of the person who may become Haiti's new leader (not official until April 16) and who might get his hands on the nine BILLION dollars raised for reconstruction after the earthquake last year.

But what I would like to see is a summit with Obama and Sarkozy where Sweey Micky shows up in drag and strips down to a diaper at the summit table.

Better yet, a meeting with Hillary in which Sweet Micky drops his pants and moons her right to her face.
