'US firmly opposed to PA seeking UN statehood declaration'

The US is firmly opposed to Palestinians pursuing a unilateral declaration of statehood through the UN, the top White House Middle East advisor said Monday.

“We have consistently made it clear that the way to produce a Palestinian state is through negotiations, not through unilateral declarations, not through going to the UN,” Dennis Ross told the Anti-Defamation League’s annual leadership conference. “Our position on that has been consistent in opposition.”

As expectations increase that the Palestinians will seek a UN resolution on the issue this September, Ross disparaged the idea as unhelpful not only to the overall diplomatic environment, but to advancing the Palestinians’ own goals.

“This doesn’t make it more likely that there’ll be a Palestinian state,” he said.

3. I seems to me that they enjoy fighting
because if they didn't they would split the country in half, say this side is ours that side is yours and be done with it. I know that would never work but sometimes the simplest things need to be tried.

West Bank and Gaza as Palestine, with Israeli settlers in the former getting the boot.

That seems the 'least bad option.'

THis is honest ignorance on my part. I was not aware that there were settlers in Gaza. I thought they were only in the WB. What are the settlements named if you know them?

11. I don't think there are. I believe they were withdrawn a few years ago

I worded my post wrongly the first time and edited it. I meant the West Bank, which has a large settler population.

Or, at least, some of the hard-core ones do. This goes back to Abraham, Issac and Ishmael and the jealousy, hatred and distrust that goes with that story.

Strange and foreign as it may sound to some of us, that's what they think about.

20. The US want's Palestinians to keep Negotiating?
Then shouldn't the US start helping with those negotiations? Shouldn't Israel actually be willing to negotiate in good faith, make some concessions, admit some responsibility for anything? Never happen!
