Debbie Wasserman Schultz picked as Democratic National Committee chair
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 04:24 PM by FLAprogressive
Source: Politico

President Barack Obama has settled on Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) as the new chair of the Democratic National Committee, top Democratic sources said Tuesday.

Wasserman Schultz, 44, was chosen for her strength as a fund-raiser and as a television messenger, and for her clout in the crucial swing state of Florida, the sources said.

She will succeed Tim Kaine, who announced earlier Tuesday that he will run for U.S. Senate from Virginia.

The final choice came down to Wasserman Schultz and former Ohio governor Ted Strickland, the sources said.

I know she gets a lot of love her because she goes on TV a lot, but she's DLC all the way. She's a longtime member of the DLC's New Democrat Coalition in the House.

Don't expect anything different from her. She's not as great as people here think.

1. Of course. everyone is DLC.
Jesus Christ. The organization doesn't even exist anymore and hasn't had any influence in Democratic politics since the early 00s.

GIVE IT A FUCKING REST, PEOPLE.

20. Actually, most embarrassing thing for real Dems is seeing how corporatist RWers have taken over
the Democratic party, and then having to be subjected to their childish insults without recourse.

The 2010 election must have been a great victory for the Dem party righties.

Harry Truman said:

"Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time"

Hammer, meet nail.

I don't recall hearing Clinton or Rham (who is now attacking Chicago unions) announcing that their corporate friendly agenda was wrong.

BTW - the organization just disolved a few weeks ago - apparently content in the knowledge that they now control the DNC.

56. The DLC Is The Boogie Man Of The Corporate Sock Puppet "Left"
It does not even exist, but that does not keep the corporate propagandists from using it to try to create discord on the left.

Freedom Works is a real organization that is funded by corporate money. The DLC is non-existent. Dead. This has to make you wonder why some folks invoke it, except to try to discredit Democrats from the "left."

She does have that fiery quality about her; and most importantly, she's not afraid to at least *sound* like a real (not "post-partisan" bullshit) Dem.

I am at least neutral (more, like, positive) on this one; Obama could've made a much, much worse choice, that is for damn sure.

Everyday the news of the Democratic Party slinks/sinks more.

I'm only holding on to Decmocrats who are the people - not the leaders.

We have the best Democrats in Kucinich and Sanders and often Weiner.

We had Feingold and Grayson.

The rest --- :o(

Yes, yes, I know Sen. Sanders is an Independent - but his votes are better than some 100% Democrats.

DWS could possibly be a fighter for your cause, but she cuts deals. When she was in charge of the Red to Blue Committee she failed to support candidates against Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and the Balart Brothers.

Be cautiously optimistic on this one, if things get "http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/08/05/560360/-Debbie-Wasserman-Schultz-Still-Sandbagging-Taddeo">too sensitive", she buckles like a belt.

49. Howard Dean was pleased with the news
I was just with him for over 3 hours today, and the news came through while we were on a train from DC to NYC.

He said nothing negative about Tim Kaine, of course--he reserves his barbs for Republicans--but he made it clear he thought it would be a vast improvement. I commented that I thought the best improvement would be if he were to take the job again, but he said it wasn't such a great gig when your own party held the White House, as the sitting president is the titular head of the party, not the party chair. He said he was not interested again. He did NOT have a lot of positive things to say about the people surrounding Obama in the White House, although he did like Daley, about whom I know nothing. I didn't have to ask what he thought of Rahm (snicker snicker).

We talked about a LOT of other things, of course, but a lot of it was private (family stuff, and off-the-record stuff), so I don't know if I should do a separate post about it this time.

Coolest part: I brought him some dark chocolate from Europe, and in return, he agreed to introduce me to Rachel Maddow. Sounds like a fair trade to me!!

But Rahm does, and he was Obama's Chief of Staff for the first two years. Howard is one of the most likeable guys
I know (we're not super close, but good friends, and have a LOT of interests in common). Rahm is about a likeable
as a rattlesnake that hasn't eaten in a while and is overtired and cold to boot, wound tighter than a guitar high

81. I've known him for about ten years
We both attended a gathering in South Carolina every New Year called Renaissance Weekend. At first, he was just
the Governor of Vermont who was "thinking of running for president." I've known him through his path from relative
obscurity to being on the covers of Time And Newsweek to "former" presidential candidate to DNC chair to now. We
have a LOT of mutual interests, from guitars to ice cream shops in Prague, and a LOT of thing in between. We don't
get to meet up as often as we would like, but we do it in style when we get the chance. Last year it was my pleasure
to organize a private lunch with just Howard, my brother and me, and Helen Thomas, whom he had never really met.

When Howard and I are both retired, we intend to spend more time together. Figure that for about 30 to 40 years from now,
at the earliest!

75. "A vast improvement over Kaine" still isn't saying much, though.

Kind of like Greg Kinnear reviewing Katie Holmes's portrayal of Jackie Kennedy.

He doesn't want to say anything bad about his own co-star, but he clearly does not want to lose his cred by raving, either. So, he earnestly says things like, "She really put her all into it."

85. I hear that
Still, she has energy and a wit. There is still a chance she'll do a good job instead of just an "adequate" one.

They vote in step with the Blue Dogs, then
blame the anti-progressive legislation that
results on the Blue Dogs.

54. This was a PUMA bribe
After all, Ms. Schultz was one of the main Florida Pumas, and she is also known for giving in to the arch GOP Miami types like her "friend" "Diaz-Balart. This is meant to cut off Ms. Schultz, should Hillary try 2012.

She was a big Clinton supporter, however, when Obama won then nomination, she worked her tail off to support him.

76. here is the DLC website:
http://www.dlc.org/ndol_ka.cfm?kaid=86

the first thing i noticed was whining about tariffs and taxes.
not going to spend any time though looking through there stuff.

but if they are closed down -- the website isn't.

79. Yes, but it really doesn't matter anymore if DLC dissolves or not. At this point,DNC = DLC,
with the possible exception of the House Progressive Caucus--and being outnumbered renders them almost moot.

Please see also Reply ##s 53., 64.and 77.
