Man With Obama Sign Attacked In San Francisco

A man who set up a table with political literature and a sign supporting President Barack Obama was attacked in San Francisco’s North Panhandle neighborhood on Monday morning, a police captain said Tuesday.

The attack happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Fell Street, where the victim, a 29-year-old Daly City man, had set up his table, said Capt. Denis O’Leary of the Police Department’s Park Station.

A man and woman approached the victim, tore one of the signs and shook the table, causing the political literature to fall to the ground.

The suspects also kicked the man in the hand, O’Leary said.

The attackers are street people.

The attackers have already been recently ticketed for violating the new "sit/lie" ordinance.

The Obama guy had a table (and presumably, a chair).

The attackers are PO'd at the Obama guy because he's permitted to SIT on a chair on the sidewalk to distribute his political literature.

Haight St goes through North Panhandle, and Haight is one of the main targets of the "sit/lie" ordinance.

Conclusion: this has ZERO to do with the President.

Are we really at the point where people feel bold enough to assault, in the open and in broad daylight, those who exercise their first amendment rights?

The only way to combat this violent intimidation of political speech is to multiply the political speech, and make sure that enough evidence of any violence is captured to prosecute those responsible.

don't kid yourself SF may appear liberal on the surface and if you stick to areas like the Mission & Castro it's even more so but stray into the outer Mission, Excelsior or gawd forbid St. Francis Wood. you get a whole other flavor.
