That doesn't mean the republicans can't take it to court.

But more likely, Koch-funded lawyers will take Prosser's case as far in court as they can. No need to get the GOP "officially" involved. (Even though Prosser's campaign itself reminded us that he's a great "complement" to the GOP.)

44. His interests overlap with those of the Republicans.
He was a Republican legislator. His politics are Republican. He was supported by individual Reptilians. The Republican Party was praying for him to win, and would connive to get him there.

Nevertheless, the race was nonpartisan, and he took no funding from the official Republican coffers.

As for your last line, I live in Wisconsin and I claim differently.

34. does anybody
know what Wisconsin statutes say about automatic triggers for recounts in elections of this type? I recall the repcons raising their usual big stink in the Franken v.Coleman race but Minnesota law required a recount in that race for that close an outcome. That said regardless you know the wingers are going to be howling "stolen" and "fraud". I just hope there's a clear cut policy to determine how this goes forward in any event and a process to investigate any suspicious circumstances.

The sleep depro is battling the adrenalin-nerves!

I think the other message it will send is that it is possible for people power to overcome $$$ power.

Besides being a prosser v. Kloppenburg fight, this election was clearly on Kloppenburg's people power--she had the volunteers and the motivated base, vs. Prosser's $$$ power--robocalls, leaflets, mailers, signs, commercials.

I don't know. the best I've heard is that absentees are added at "some time during the election day." Some areas handle them at the preceincts, some in a central location (Milwaukee for example). So I don't know where that would leave them in the AP reported results. I would assume that areas with all precincts reporting in have all the ballots--absentee and otherwise--counted. Maybe that's the holdup with Milwaukee. I can't imagine there are that many absentees in some of the smaller precincts though.

Edited: Prosser picked up 2 votes. I changed the total in the header.

32. Daily Kos has a thread
Here are two relevant posts:

#
Township of Lake Mills (0+ / 0-)

Apparently it's not Lake Mills proper, but the township, which is rural. 700 votes, if it reflects other Jefferson County percentages, could net Prosser a hundred or so votes.

On the other hand, that area is within reach of Madison media market. They will be well acquainted with Kloppenburg.

it is hereby DECLARED that 2011 Wisconsin Act 10 has not been published within the meaning of Wis. Stats. §§ 991.11, 35.095(1)(b) and 35.095(3)(b), and is therefore not in effect.

by Giles Goat Boy on Wed Apr 06, 2011 at 08:42:32 AM PDT

#
* Lake Mills in Jefferson Cty should go Prosser +43 (0+ / 0-)

In 2010 general election Lake Mills went 55% for Walker; while all of Jefferson County went 60% for Walker.

Prosser is underperforming Walker by 2% so far in Jefferson County, so if Lake Mills breaks for Prosser 53/47, and they expect 700-760 votes, that would mean about +43 for Prosser.

That's better than previously projected for Kloppenburg.

Right to the wire. A scriptwriter couldn't have done it better.

I do hope the ballots are closely guarded though.

This would be just right for shenanigans. And based on some of the poll workers I saw in a certain red Milwaukee county precinct, it wouldn't surprise me if they were adding a little "Prosser insurance" to the ballot boxes right now. I'm not saying they are, I'm just saying that it wouldn't surprise me if that happened, if it turned out that this was one of the holdout precincts.

I'd really really really really like to know where those last 2 precincts are.

Really.

Really really.

35. Some info on where in Milwaukee votes are missing
"The AP said early Wednesday morning that it was missing results from Cudahy, St. Francis and a small portion of West Allis in Milwaukee County. According to results gathered by the Journal Sentinel Tuesday night, Prosser won St. Francis 1,336 votes to 1,241 and won Cudahy 2,468 to 2,313. If that proves to be the case, it would add another 250 votes to Prosser's lead.

St. Francis officials confirmed those results Wednesday morning. Cudahy officials could not yet be reached. The Cudahy and St. Francis results would account for 10 of the 12 missing precincts in Milwaukee County with the other two coming from West Allis."

http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/119314604.html

West Allis.

Union, yes.

But also often very red.

48. Quick Answer for you
It's a close race because the "perception management" professionals spun off their own war.

Lots and lots and lots of outside money was spent -- the record by far in any judicial race in
the State of Wisconsin, ever -- and that battle end up being a "he said, she said" game that
the MoneyBags maybe ended up getting the better of.

.....It looked like a winner, at first. Years ago, Prosser, while a D.A., had ignored a complaint
about a Catholic priest. Instead, he went to the bishop and that priest was transferred --
before he was ultimately found out.

So the first Kloppenburg ads brought those salient (but somewhat dated) facts to people's
attention.

Then the MoneyBags hired one of the (now grown-up) alleged abused kids to film a spot in
which he appears on camera denying the whole thing, and giving credit to Prosser for 'helping
bring justice' to the family, and blaming Kloppenburg for continuing to insist that it could
have all played out any other way. (Piling on the family's pain.)

It was completely nauseating and probably effective, if you weren't paying attention to the
larger issues in the race.

So Kloppenburg looked like the Bad One, if you were just concentrating on what passes for
debate in judicial races in this state, these days.

....But let's keep our fingers crossed, that it all works out in the end.
