Jay Severin fired by WTKK-FM (Boston)

Jay Severin, the highly paid talk show host whose provocative on-air comments twice resulted in suspensions, was fired by WTKK-FM today.

Severin was let go because he did not maintain an "appropriate level of civility and adhere to a standard that respects our listeners and the public at large," according to a statement released by Greater Media Inc., which owns WTKK. "Unfortunately, it had become clear at several points in the past two years that Jay was either unwilling or unable to maintain our standards on the air. It's for that reason we have made the decision to end our relationship."

Severin, who signed a seven-year contract in 2006 that pays him close to $1 million a year, was suspended last week for saying he had slept with female employees years ago. "That's not the purpose for which they were hired," he said while discussing the case of a CEO who was sued for sexual harassment. "I don't think of myself as a monster or strange in any way because of that. All I was was a young man who was the boss and I did it because I could."

16. Irish it up? What an idiotic thing to write. First off, Severin isn't an Irish name. It's French.

Second, there are many Jimmys among the Irish and Irish-Americans so there'd be no need to "Irish up" his first name.

Third, it's charming to pretend that the Irish-Americans still run Boston but you really need to update your references. An Italian name isn't exactly a handicap in the Boston area. Don't take my word for it. Ask Tom Menino. Ask the mayors, council members, and assembly members.

15. 96.9 is the only station on my dial in the car for talk radio here

around Boston. Jay Severin was bad, Michel Graham is just as bad, plus dumb as a rock, Michelle McPhee(pretended to be liberal) & was a right wing nut-bag, who also got canned and now we have some educated air-head, Mel Robbins, who talks tabloid issues at us ....BORING!!!

Their whole line up sucks to high heaven! The only thing half way decent on that station are Egan and Browdy and even they love them some Scott Brown and his wife with 'the curious hand'. (that cracks me up cause Brown's wife, Gail, did the weather from on the street during all the snow storms (she did a darned good job of it too) & she looked so pretty and sweet, you'd have never have guessed she had a wild side in her youth, I like her).

On week-ends we now get to listen to the upper middle class & rich people call in to get market advice. When you are having a hard time buying bread, that crap talk could lead you to go insane!

Boston "the liberal bastion" and we can't get anything but RW talk radio! If I were rich enough, I guess I could buy Sirius, but I'm not!
