Suicide at Camp Where Sen. Scott Brown Was Abused as a Boy
Body Found Day After Police Launch Second Sex Abuse Complaint at the Camp

The body of a man who committed suicide was found today at the summer camp where U.S. Sen. Scott Brown was sexually abused as a child.

The body was discovered shortly after police confirmed that they were launching an investigation into complaints by a second man who came forward to say he had also been molested at the camp when he was a 10-year-old boy back in 1985.

A heavy police presence was seen at Camp Good News in the town of Sandwich on Cape Cod, Mass., at about 10:34 a.m., according to ABCNews' Boston affiliate WCVB-TV. Massachusetts State Police released few details about the death.

Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Matthew Murray told ABC News the body was that of a man who was "an apparent suicide by gunshot wound."

State Police detectives and crime scene specialists are on the scene of an apparent suicide in Sandwich at a Cape Cod camp that US Senator Scott Brown attended when he says he was abused, law enforcement authorities said.

The case is an "apparent suicide by gunshot wound," said State Police spokesman David Procopio.

The Globe reported Tuesday that Cape prosecutors were examining a series of concerns raised about the Christian summer camp, including one report from a former camper who told his lawyer he was repeatedly molested there when he was 10 years old, in the mid-1980s

Attorney Mitchell Garabedian, who represents the former camper, told the Globe the alleged abuser still worked at the camp.

5. Typical of child predators...
...they often suicide when their crimes against children are discovered.

They are the weakest, most cowardly people in the universe.

Their desire to power up on the most vulnerable and innocent--while rationalizing
that they are "attracted to children" or are really "doing no harm to children" illustrates
just how twisted and cowardly they are.

When the truth hits their vast web of self-deception--they can't handle it.

11. OK, "suicide" is NOT a verb
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 03:55 PM by Kelvin Mace
This is a pet peeve of mine, but I get equally annoyed by people who claim they "architected" something, or folks who "proact" all over the place.

Also, I don't understand what you mean by "Their desire to power up on the most vulnerable and innocent". I have seen the term "power up" used in the context of video games, but never pedophilia.

I'm supposed to validate my choice of words on a political messageboard?

I'm sorry, I thought we were just shooting the shit online. I didn't realize
that this was SERIOUS bidness!

For real?

And BTW--If you want to go all Strunk & White on me--"suicide" according to
Merriam Webster, IS a verb. http://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/suicide%5B2%5D

Ya dumb bunny. :eyes:

15. My source is the OED
M-W loves to be "trendy" and sticks in every new Orwellian monstrosity the government and business comes up with. They even have an entry for "proactive" (speaking of business monstrosities), so they are not the most authoritative source. Also, M-W often fails to make distinctions between proper and improper use of words. If we are going to through open the rules of grammar to populist arbitration, then we might as well eliminate spelling requirements as well.

In order for language to have meaning, it must have structure and it must have rules. Chaotic or populist attitudes about these rules leads to less meaningful communication, not more.

"Suicide" as a verb is from the spook community, along with neat stuff like "enhanced interrogation" (torture), and "sanction" (murder). Using nouns as verbs is unavoidable in some cases, such as when technology creates a new situation where a verb is not available. Two examples from the past would be "telephone" (later reduced to "phone" meaning to contact someone by telephone, and "email" as a means of differentiating contacting someone by electronic means, rather that the postal service. More recently we have "texting" which is a different means of communicating with someone, distinct from email and phoning. "Messaging" is a nasty invention of the software/telecom industry in there never-ending quest to appear clever without actually being clever. (I have attended seminars and product demos where the word "calendar" was used as a verb, and I have already mentioned people who "architect a web site".

The trend in "reductionist" language is not a good trend, and is generally pushed by government and corporate agencies trying to alter the meaning of words for their own ends. It is my view that language be used as precisely as possible with absolute hostility toward and reductionist and Orwellian influence.

Nowhere is this view more important than on blogs, where communication is stripped of tonal nuance, and contextual body language/facial expression.

I know you think this is trivial, but I ask you which has more emotional impact:

"He sexually molested children."

"He pedophiled."

14. I realize the "good news" is of Jesus Christ...
but can you imagine all the "bad news" that's going to come out about this place in the next few weeks? Every boy who ever got molested at this camp--and there are going to be a bunch of them, because anyone who would prey on one child in this kind of a place will not stop at one, and it seems that there were more than one child molestor working there because Scott Brown's rapist isn't this man--is going to come forward. And every boy who got molested by this specific counselor is going to be at the head of the line.

As far as the other thing...apparently he decided taking his own life was preferable to being killed in prison, and it well may have been; the prisoners would make sure he died slowly.
