Less than three days away from a government shutdown, House Republican leaders stood defiant today laying blame on President Obama and Democrats if the lights go out.

And he upped the ante, saying House Republicans were prepared to go forward with a bold one-week continuing resolution that would cut a whopping $12 billion in spending but continue to fund the Pentagon through September.

The $12 billion figure is more than the last two continuing resolutions combined -- $6 billion for three weeks, $4 billion for two.

Boehner called it "our troop-funding bill."

Outrageous! While Republicans hold the budget hostage in order to demand cuts to education, health care, and a repeal of environmental laws, they blame the President and Democrats for not giving in, and then hide behind our troops! The same troops whose benefits they voted against!!!

Even the local news personalities have had made off the cuff comments about the Republicans shutting down the Government. People know which party is causing the problem, and 2012 will be the time to make a correction.

Republicans: We want to kill all the kittens AND puppies.
Democrats: We refuse to allow you to do that.
Republicans: You must compromise! We have a MANDATE!
Democrats: How about you kill 1/4 of the kittens but none of the puppies?
Republicans: Now we also want to kill all the widdle fwuffy bunnies too!
Democrats: Wait...we haven't agreed on the kitten/puppy situation yet...
Republicans: What part of MANDATE don't you liberals understand?!?!?!
Democrats: Well, how about 1/2 the kittens, 1/2 the puppies and 1/4 of the rabbits...Easter is coming up so a bunch of dead bunnies just looks bad.

Republicans: That's it, we're tired of your refusal to compromise. We're going to shut the government down AND pass a bill to kill all puppies, kittens, bunnies, parakeets and guinea pigs. If you refuse to pass it in the Senate and the President refuses to sign it, it will become law anyways. MANDATE!!!!

9. In many ways it's 1995 again.

In many others it's an entirely new ballgame since they have the endless wars to contend with. The GOP are actually more dogmatic now then they were in 1995. Which is something I would never have thought possible back then. This time around it's unlikely a Newt like slip of the tongue will bolster support for Democrats. Still, in may ways it's as if I'm watching a rerun of bad 1995 US politics.

Have no qualms about pretending to be objective. They just slant and lie with impunity. Heck, look at the coverage of Paul Ryan's proposal to gut Medicare and cut taxes for the rich. It utter bullshit, yet it is proclaimed to bold and courageous.

People will see this, just like they did in 95. There were no problems with passing a budget until the Republicans came along.
