Aroostook County Republicans set up fund to buy labor mural
Source: BDN

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Republicans in northern Maine are raising money so the state can buy a disputed labor mural from the federal government.

The Aroostook County Republican Committee has created a website, www.buythemural.com, to raise $60,000 so the state can take ownership of the art work and let LePage focus on other issues without “mural-type distractions.”

LePage created an uproar when he had the 36-foot-wide mural depicting moments in Maine’s labor history removed from the Department of Labor headquarters. He said it favored of organized labor at the expense of business.

The U.S. Department of Labor says LePage violated terms of the federal grant used to pay for most of the mural’s cost when he had it removed, and therefore the state should return the federal money used to create it.

1. If they are able to swing the "purchase", it won't ever see the light of day again.
They'll probably destroy it. :(

12. Sold or displayed, IIRC.
If the County Republicans wanted to do some good they should raise 60K to pay for fuel assistance.

11. Probably Destroyed Already
LePage's henchmen would have made a party out of prying the mural off the wall with crowbars and busting it up as much as possible.

They would have had NO motivation to preserve it, since the history of labor is something the Repigs are trying to erase.

3. I still can't get over the GOP fussing about a labor mural being in the Dept of Labor headquarters.
I mean, Jeebus on a cracker. Of course it favors organized labor! It's in the Department of Labor headquarters! It's not in the Chamber of Commerce headquarters!

9. like the Buddha in Afghanistan
by "taking ownership" of the mural and use at the full discretion of the (current) Governor of Maine the mural will be like the Buddhas that were bombed by the Taliban. Ironic that such "patriots" pattern their behavior after the Taliban and other dictators instead of American leaders who are not afraid of free speech. What are they so afraid of that they have to stifle opinions other than theirs?
