House passes stopgap bill
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday defied a White House veto threat and passed a bill by a vote of 247 to 181 that would keep the government running for another week -- on the condition of $12 billion in spending cuts.

The measure, which has no chance of becoming law, would also fund the Pentagon through the rest of this fiscal year, which ends September 30. President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats are pushing instead for a bill to fund the entire government for the rest of the fiscal year. Current funding expires at midnight on Friday.

The House vote came as Obama met with congressional leaders at the White House in search of a bipartisan solution.

2. Notice how they want to fund the military for a year and take any cuts to it off the table?
FUCK THAT. EVERYTHING has to be on the table. Military cuts and TAX INCREASES for the WEALTHY.
How about an AMT for Corporations?

4. The gopers are being
as usual un-caring when it comes to the American people. They just don't care. They got theirs and eff everyone else. This will backfire real badly on them. I truly feel for the 800,000 plus troops and businesses who will be affected by this bullshit. If the government shuts down, their pay should also stop as well.

Hopefully more and more people are 'noticing'. The people of the US cannot sacrifice any more to support the top 1%. Enough.

8. Exactly!
If he signs it, I'll do a write-in vote for Prez in 2012. One of us has to stand on principles.

10. I just went to the IRS
To get some forms. I asked them what will happen to their jobs if the shutdown occurs. The guy read from some form letter which didn't answer my question about whether they would be temporarily furloughed or what. He said they can't say.
