Obama aide: Trump is a 'sideshow'
Source: USA Today

A top adviser to President Obama said today that Donald Trump's prospective presidential bid is a "sideshow," particularly his suggestions that Obama was not born in the United States.

"There may be a small part of the country that believes these things, but mainstream Americans think it's a sideshow," said White House senior adviser David Plouffe, speaking on ABC's This Week with Christiane Amanpour.

Instead, Plouffe said, Americans want leaders to "focus squarely on the issues right in front of us: how we're going to keep growing the economy ... how we keep our people safe, how do we make sure we're going to win the future by focusing on things like education and innovation? So that's what they want us to focus on."

"I think I saw Donald Trump kind of rising in some polls and given his behavior and spectacle the last couple of weeks, I hope he keeps on rising because there is zero chance that Donald Trump would ever be hired by the American people to do this job," Plouffe said.

2. I completely agree
Trump is a joke, and should not even be allowed to be on TV let alone run for public office.

PS I really hate un'rec trolls, they need to go back to their freeper zone and cry to their "friends" rather than bother us here.

7. David Plouffe has a TON more faith in the American People...
than I do! I am not so sure the American People would not elect Trump! Americans like dumb down aggressive authoritarian talk like that in which Trump is doing! It is scary to me the idea of any Republican getting back in office especially with full control of both Houses of Government!

Plus, if DU is really a barometer on how Democrats will vote or will not vote then it is a slam dunk the Republicans will have full control of the US Government come Jan. 2013!

8. Touche!
He has obviously run out of cash and needed some $$$ quick, fast, and in a hurry. His whole faux "campaign" is nothing more than one of those nonsensical reality shows, no doubt bought and paid for by the looniest of teabaggers!

12. He's such a publcity hound
.. I think that, and the adoration, is why he's doing this. Sarah is doing it for the money, of course, and folks like there like Huckabee are genuinely interesting in helping (as he sees it) the country.

But Trump? He's the Snooki of the pack and just an attention whore.

22. Trump, Palin, Bachmann .... all looking for a $$$ gravy train.
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 10:49 AM by SomeGuyInEagan
My belief is that Palin has no intention whatsoever in actually running for president, but rather is raking in gobs of cash while she can until she is forced to either jump in the race (and soon after, drop out, claiming to be a victim of some sort) or announces that she simply cannot enter the race because the liberal media is all against her. And Michelle Bachmann has watched Palin the past two years and wants to be the person to jump in and take Palin's place as the well-paid mouth piece should Palin drop off the map. Living in Minnesota, I can tell you that she is not serious but an opportunist (like most Republicans).

As for Trump, I think he is just looking to boost ratings for his show.

As such, they are side shows. But I don't know that the Republicans have anyone truly serious to take the headlines away.

15. Panamanians get it -- declare Trump persona non grata

This happened last month (March 12). It was discussed in the Latin American forum.

-------------------

AFP - The municipal council of Panama City has declared US real estate tycoon Donald Trump persona non grata following remarks he allegedly made about the Panama Canal.

"We unanimously approved a resolution that declared Donald Trump persona non grata," Javier Ortega, a member of the council, told AFP Friday.

According to Panamanian officials, Trump told CNN that the United States had "stupidly" handed over the Panama Canal to the country "in exchange for nothing."

The canal, linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, was handed over to Panama in 1999 under a 1977 treaty signed by former US president Jimmy Carter.

"I think it was a political stupidity on the part of Donald Trump," said Panamanian Commerce and Industry Minister Roberto Henriquez.

"Somebody who has 400 million dollars invested in Panama should not speak this way."

---------------
(A new, five-star Trump hotel is scheduled to open in Panama City in June -- that is the reference to the 400 million dollars.)

20. what's great is by commenting on it, they elevate his profile even more and make the GOP look
even more stupid.

I doubt that Trump has chance of getting through the religious filter of the GOP, but it would be worth it for the chance to see him debate Obama and expose himself as the self-congratulatory half-wit that he is.
