US elections: Mitt Romney announces candidacy
Source: The Guardian

Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and multimillionaire businessman, has officially confirmed that he will seek the Republican nomination to take on Barack Obama in next year's White House race.

Romney set up an exploratory committee that will allow him to begin raising campaign funds. The only other official candidate so far is Tim Pawlenty, the former governor of Minnesota. The former house speaker, Newt Gingrich, is semi-official, unable to set up a full exploratory committee until he has disentangled himself from financial commitments.

Obama announced last week that he will seek a second term.

In a short video, Romney, standing in front of a football field in New Hampshire, which normally holds the first primary, made unemployment his key campaign message.

14. Rubio won't get it, the Tea Party has called him a fraud and turned against him big time
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 11:35 PM by Ter
He is an establishment hack neo-con masquerading as a Tea Bagger. He is the definition of a Teo-Con. Real Tea Baggers don't even think he's eligible anyway. Obama will win in 2012, but by 2016, the Republican establishment neo-cons will be finished, and Rand Paul will win it all.

8. Unemployment is his primary message...
And I can't wait for him to explain how he plans on making sure that unemployment increases.

My guess is that it involved tax cuts and improper funding. Should be exciting.

13. Politico - "Romney antes up for Wis. GOP" - Supports Scott Walker's Union Crushing Efforts
Well, it is nice to know that Mitt Romney is supportive of Scott Walker's efforts to crush workers' rights.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/50116.html#ixzz1JHQQL6nC

Mitt Romney is sending cash to Wisconsin Republicans in a show of solidarity with Gov. Scott Walker’s push to end collective bargaining for state employees.

“Liberal big government interests are fighting efforts to rein in out-of-control public employee pay and benefits in Wisconsin," Romney said in a Thursday statement. "It is critical that we stand with the Wisconsin GOP as it stands up for the rights of the taxpayer."

His Free and Strong America PAC is sending the maximum $5,000 contribution to the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

The fight is part of Walker’s battle to solve the state’s budget woes, and union protestors have come out in force to oppose his plan.

15. That varmint again? Kennedy had the perfect line after Mitt started playing to the neotheos:
Newsperson: "Didn't he say he was pro-choice when he ran against you?

Kennedy: "He's pro-choice, he's anti-choice, he's multiple choice."
