ASTORIA -- A body that washed ashore near the south jetty in Fort Stevens State Park on April 2 has been identified as the man swept out to sea a month ago by a tsunami wave generated in Japan.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office used dental records to identify Dustin Douglas Weber.

Weber was reported missing March 11 near the mouth of the Klamath River in Del Norte County, California. Relatives in Del Norte County have been notified.

The 25-year-old man had just moved to Klamath, Calif. from Bend, Oregon, where he grew up.

1. My apologies if you knew the guy...but...
...an alternate headline could have been:

The body of a California man swept out to sea by a surge from Japan's tsunami last month has washed up on the Oregon coast, some 500 kilometres away, US authorities said on Tuesday.

The body of Dustin Douglas Weber, 25,who was taking photographs of the tsunami when he was swept away, was found on April 2 by someone walking on the beach near Warrenton, Oregon, at the mouth of the Columbia River.

"The body had been in the water for several weeks," Dr Christopher Young, Oregon deputy state medical examiner, said.

7. He got his act together and died. The story about him is interesting, happy and sad.

It is nice to read how he died rather than just "taking pictures" and sounding like a egotistical fool which is all I'd read when he died.

I am glad he showed up again, sorry for family, friends, So sad, what a way to die.

thanks for the notice, was wondering if and where he would show up. :(

8. Definitely worth reading the linked story.
It's easy to make light of something like this without knowing the circumstances or the actual people involved.

10. No Mercy?
Who, here, has not done something reckless? Who, here, has not put him or herself at risk? It is sad for me to read the comments from you who are quick to criticize a person who was living his life, not seeking to do harm to anyone, including himself. When did we become so harsh as to look at a loss of human life like this, comment about his being a dumbass, and then go on as if his life has no more meaning than that? I think it brings us shame to be so careless and callous. This is where blogging leads us to be less than the people we long to be. This man was a person. There are many of us at DU who are working behind the scenes to make the United States safer and more protective for the poor and the disabled. We don't interview people to make sure that we are helping only the geniuses, only the deserving ones. We are working for regular people, making the assumption that regular people are worth fighting for. When I see comments about this "regular person" I feel sad that the values we say we have here at DU, fall by the wayside in a moment. I wish we had more integrity than that.

I'm lucky the one that made me stop didn't kill me.
