Waukesha Co Clerk to respond to calls for her resignation today

Source: Wisconsin State Journal - Madison WI

The Waukesha County Clerk will be responding to calls for her resignation on Tuesday afternoon, her office said.

County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus, who botched her count of last week's Wisconsin Supreme Court race, has faced a storm of criticism over her handling of the debacle.

The chairman of Waukesha County's Democratic Party has begun calling for Nickolaus to resign after the revelation that she had failed to include votes from all of Brookfield in the totals she reported to the Associated Press.

Party chairman Victor Weer said in a statement Tuesday that Nickolaus' vote counting and reporting has produced a history of problems, adding that she has ignored calls to make her work more open and reliable.

3. We'd better get more than her resignation
because if her shenanigans hold, we're stuck with that fucker Prosser for 10 years!! And I, and many others, are not convinced he won.

6. Yes - her resignation needs to be followed by an investigation!
and while we're at it, a STATEWIDE HAND RECOUNT OF ALL BALLOTS!

11. Nah..."investigations" don't amount to anything.....
investigations are all done by the 'boyz' these days....you won't find much TRUTH there.

18. Sorry if I offended you....I'm NOT a wet blanket at all
I think what has happened/played out in Wisconsin is HUGE and totally INSPIRING!

We PEOPLE make the difference ~ TOTALLY.

My point was that "official investigations" would put the BALL back in the, so-called "expert's" court and would not reveal the truth of the situation.

20. He didn't win.
I don't see why this isn't just a case of counting signatures and comparing it to the number of ballots. If there is wrong doing the difference should be in the thousands. At least fourteen thousand.

25. If Prosser had those votes
then Republicans should be really pissed at her. If he had earned 7000 legitimate votes and she failed to report them she was extremely close to costing them the election. Either she's horribly incompetent or manufactured those votes, there is no means by which one legitimately discovers that many votes.

34. Good point and welcome to DU. Have yet to hear a peep from the GOP in the county.
There was a lone woman picketing in front of the courthouse today calling for an investigation. I highly doubt she was GOP.

33. I don't think she should resign, or be forced to resign...
I think there should be a complete investigation. The computer and all software should have been seized immediately upon suspicion. If there was, "an error", it would be easy to trace back and find. With the time elapsed, and the possibility of others accessing/altering information, a case cod be jeopardized.

Here's the point, this woman, if indicted, should be taken out of her office in cuffs, in full view of the public. Far too often, people in these positions are taken away from home or some small area. The point being, when people are charged with criminal activity, they should be taken from where they work in the full glare of daylight for everyone to see. I believer that at the time of arrest, cameras should be rolling as the Warrant is read, the Miranda Right's given and no chance for a "cut & paste" job. I want the world to see the shock, the fear, the response of someone that has just been called to account.

In cases like this, we always get the "cleansed" version, and that is one reason why we become jaded, and individuals continue to dupe the public time and again. It is the job of Justice to follow through on criminal accounts; it is the job of the press corps to honestly report what is news, and that includes a non-sanitized version of events.

I am willing to bet the 80 year old woman, Ramona Kitzinger who helped open this up, will be vilified. She will be called all kinds of things, "senile", "demented", "addled"...and all the while, this honest 80 year old will have to take it, while what appears to be the true criminal in this will be "sanitized".

The Justice Dept, and the press should do their jobs, get to the bottom of this and if warranted, proceed with any legal action necessary, openly and in full view of the public.

35. You know the saying....
If something is too good to be true - it probably isn't.

I can't help but wonder if the "extra" 7000 votes are not the ones in Nicklaus computer.....

and she is the bait. Because this scheme is so blatantly obvious...it seems almost just too darned perfect to make ones eyebrows rise to the hairline....she just happened to find just the right amount to put Prosser ahead and not trigger a state funded recount.....

Don't get me wrong - I believe there is something fraudulent going on.....it just happened somewhere LEAST expected....and am not sure a recount would find it.

Would be nice if the elections officials just declared those Nicklaus 7000 invalid given her shoddy work....but again, am not sure they can do that.
