Pennsylvania voters sour on Obama ahead of 2012
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 06:34 PM by onehandle
Source: Yahoo News/Public Policy Polling

President Obama won Pennsylvania by double-digits in 2008, but judging by his poll numbers there now, it's hard to imagine he'll be able to pull off a similar victory next year.

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds Obama's approval rating in the state at just 42 percent--one of his lowest ratings among next year's block of expected battleground states. That's more than a 20 point drop since Obama came to the White House in 2009.

Even self-described Democrats have issues with the president. While Obama's rating with Democrats nationally is at 81 percent, just 68 percent of Dems in the state approve of the job he's doing.

The poll finds him virtually tied with three potential GOP opponents--Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator who is barely a blip on most national polls. As PPP notes, the numbers are surprising given that most GOP candidates in the state actually boast lower approval ratings than Obama.

On edit:

I believe President Obama will eek out a national win. Which will Have to include PA.

This election will look more like pre-2008 elections, with neither candidate hitting 50%.

I am really curious to see the final math against Romney/Rubio 2012.

Rubio will win in 2016.

1. Why does it seem like the people of Pennsylvania
want to breath toxins and drink poison.

11. Just give Corbett another 12 months. The numbers will swing back to Obama.
I say this as a Pennsylvanian appalled by Corbett and not that happy with Obama.

18. I agree. Corbett is gonna really piss people off with his budget cutting ...
... which favors the rich and takes it out on the poor, on unions, on education.

My fellow Pennsylvanians will be begging Obama to save them.

13. Not all of us. But, unfortuately, the elderly in my state always vote and our politicians cater to
their concerns which are usually no tax increases and the status quo.

7. 2004 and 2008 many polls showed both races being nip-and-tuck
Kerry won Pennseylvania by 3%, but many of those polls were predicting much closer
The polls predicted Obama's race would be closer
Neither were as close as the pollsters were telling us for weeks before the election

A year and a half is an eternity. Unlike MI, WI, FL and NJ, Pennsylvania's governor's policies aren't even discussed nationally so he may not be crazy.
Let's see what the rest of '11 brings and what happens in '12

3. Because
As a former resident of the Delaware Water Gap, I can tell you, the churches are in full force, as nasty as any in Dixie. her rich men also had experience using violence against workers; they still celebrate the death of the molly maguires. Still, Obama has a secret weapon, the very much beloved native son Joe Biden (yes Delaware is technically another state, but very much in the local area), and if Hillary is picked, her Dad was from PA.

10. My feeling
is PA will break for Obama. And we'll be able to thank our creep of a Governor. He's alienating more people than he realizes in places where the Republicans take votes for granted. Since voters can't yet take the anger out on the Gov, the discontent might manifest with votes cast against the Republican presidential nominee. I hope so, anyway. At least then Corbett would be good for something.

14. If the repukes keep pissing off the unions
there will be alot of PA repukes staying home = Obama win. The mine workers in SW PA had a march recently that should be a red flag to the RW lunaitc fringe who until recently, had courted those folks.

15. Simply stated, any poll that has Santorum with high numbers is a joke.
PPP is known to be conservative leaning and at this point polls are nothing but name recognition.

19. Plenty of DUers made fools of themselves predicting that Obama would lose PA in 2008
I'm sure we'll see more line up for another round of making themselves laughingstocks.

20. Reportedly, Rendell had a stellar GOTV organization. I hope it is still intact.
Unless Republicans find someone exciting to run that we have not heard about yet, just getting Dems to the polls will do the triick, IMO.
