Spain says no to torture probe of Bush officials

MADRID -- A Spanish judge has thrown out a request that he probe six senior Bush administration officials accused of creating a legal framework for the torture of terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay prison.

Judge Eloy Velasco said in a four-page ruling issued Wednesday that the United States has told Spain the U.S. government is holding investigations of its own.

Velasco said for this reason, Spain cannot apply its doctrine of universal jurisdiction, which holds that, under some circumstances, crimes allegedly committed in other countries can be prosecuted in Spain's National Court.

The judge was acting on a complaint brought by human rights lawyers in 2009.

Looking backwards and enforcing accountability is a reckless attempt to make sure that others will not repeat these atrocities and follow in their footsteps.

"If someone's leaking information in my administration, I want to know about it." This was in regards to the Valerie Plame affair.

When the House Oversight Committee held a hearing, the person in charge of conducting any investigations into the leaking of VP's identity was asked if he had been ordered by the President to investigate.

His answer was "No."

this injustice works. The U.S. does all it's dealing behind closed doors with foreign governments
and gives them kick backs in return for the favor. Corruption is rampant worldwide. Spain is just
another disapointing country like Sweden when it comes to serving the greater good.
