Man allegedly stabbed by woman in (Duke) lacrosse scandal dies
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- A man who police say was recently stabbed by the accuser in the 2006 Duke University lacrosse scandal has died, the Durham County, North Carolina, medical examiner's office confirmed Thursday.

Reginald Daye, 46, died Wednesday at Duke University Hospital as a result of the stabbing earlier this month, Durham police said.

Crystal Mangum, whose accusation of rape against three Duke athletes generated national attention and sparked debate over class and race, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury in the stabbing of Daye.

Officers responding to a call found a man who had been stabbed in the torso and who was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. They said they later arrested Mangum, described as the man's girlfriend, and that the stabbing occurred during a quarrel at the couple's shared apartment.

3. I expect her to plead on this so it might be an easy case.
I read somewhere else that the boyfriend had identified his stabber.

5. The jokes write themselves, but this should never have happened.
Mangum should have been serving a prison sentence for deliberately trying to ruin the lives of 3 innocent men several years ago. The people who coddled this monster by refusing to prosecute her earlier crime have Mr. Daye's blood on their hands.

7. Absolutely!
Inexcusable that she basically skated on the whole thing after what she pulled.

Mike Nifong has some responsibility in this, too.

13. Deliberately, huh?

"Our investigators who talked with her and the attorneys who talked with her over a period of time think that she may actually believe the many different stories that she has been telling."

She was never charged because intent could never be proved.

By the way, one of the people who 'coddled this monster' was NC Attorney General Cooper, who took the unusual step of declaring the Duke students innocent, instead of merely not guilty. I asked in this thread if he should be indicted, evidently I've found a taker.

12. Why? I heard it was really 20 white college kids who did the actual stabbing
also they were rich and privileged.

9. As If . . .
. . . many white people have made accusations equally as heinous . . . , i.e., Mary Turcotte and Charles Stuart, to name just two. :eyes:

She needed mental health care.
