House kills effort to allow recall (Maine)
Source: Village Soup

AUGUSTA — Local legislators split along party lines on a proposal to allow voters the right to recall the governor, legislators and other state officers.

The Maine House voted 83-66 on April 14 to indefinitely postpone the measure, a move that killed the legislation.

The proposal had been offered by Rep. Cynthia Dill, D-Cape Elizabeth. The proposal would have directed the Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee to report out a bill that establishes a process for the recall of the governor, legislators and constitutional officers such as the Secretary of State and state Treasurer.

If the bill had passed, a referendum would have to be held for the public to amend the state's Constitution.

3. But then the exact same situation could happen again.
It seems like this could have easily been avoided by having instant runoff voting, or a normal run off election at the least. If you're going to amend the stat's constitution, you might as well amend it to include the best remedy instead of one designed only for the current situation.

14. be careful what you ask for
we have the recall initiative here in cali which was first used in 2002 (by the repigs) to recall a dem (gray davis) for very ambiguous reasons, and install schwarzenegger. schwarzenegger and pete wilson (the puppetmaster) almost destroyed this state for 7 years. never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public with regard to recalls! it definitely can backfire.

5. This needs to readdressed quickly. Now, if existing procedure was
not followed, then I understand it more, but if it is tried again with the rules followed, and voted down, then this is not good. Every state should have the right of recall, else you get what we have in Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida, which has turned into a banana zone. Part of my family lives in Florida. They cannot believe it. I'm actually kind of surprised that the syndicate hasn't taken Scott out. This man needs to go now before the place become uninhabitable.

8. In other words:
"We, the Maine Republicans, know full well that any effort to recall our buffoon of a governor
would meet with great success, and therefore do not want it submitted to a vote of the people
of Maine. What business is it of theirs who is their governor?"

9. Buyers remorse is all over the country
In a weird way this may have been the wake up call to "We have been waiting for US"! Maybe we needed a real kick in the teeth to understand what we are up against.

These Facist pigs have no idea to what they have unleashed.
