Lawsuit questioning Taco Bell's beef is dropped
Source: WTOP/AP

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An Alabama-based law firm has withdrawn its class-action lawsuit that sought to force Taco Bell to stop calling the meat it serves "beef."

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in California, alleged that what Taco Bell calls "seasoned beef" is a meat mixture that has binders and extenders and does not meet federal requirements to be labeled beef.

The fast-food chain says the lawsuit was voluntarily withdrawn by the firm. It says no money was exchanged and it is not changing any of its products or advertising.

Law firm Beasley Allen says it withdrew the lawsuit after Taco Bell made changes to its marketing and product disclosure.

Anyone else wondering if this whole thing was a deliberate ad campaign by Taco Bell?

2. Can't see how it would favor Taco Bell to be sued for false advertising.

6. Now that strikes me as over the line of reasonable suspicion.
Contrary to what Brendan Behan said, there is such a thing as bad publicity. Just count on your fingers. How many people read that the suit was filed? How many will read that it was dropped?

7. Yeah! Just like that stupid chihuahua a few years ago!
Did anyone really believe that an advertising firm could come up with such an unbelievably stupid and annoying campaign except on purpose?

3. The lawsuit was worthless to begin with.
The plaintiff had the meat tested, and filed suit when the lab results said it was 35% solids, or protein, or something like that, neglecting that real meat is part water to start with.

It's Jack in the Box that fills its tacos with cornmeal, if my taste buds don't lie.

8. I don't think jack in the box even claim the cheap tacos are beef.
From what I remember, they were just "tacos" which had some brown stuff in them. It's not high authority, but a friend told me that someone who worked there confirmed that the tacos are vegetarian.

4. Blech. It's like soylent green.
Beef, my ass. And I was once a beef farmer.

We threw that stuff away. The coyotes and turkey vultures eat that stuff.

10. Anyone who watches Food, Inc.
would want less meat in their fast food taco, if they even continued to eat such a thing.
