Supreme Court evacuated due to unattended stroller

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court has been evacuated while police investigate an unattended stroller near the building on Capitol Hill.

Officials say the stroller is in the 100 block of Maryland Avenue in Northeast. First Street is blocked to traffic between Constitution Avenue Northeast and Independence Avenue Southeast.

Maryland Avenue also is closed between First and Second streets in Northeast.

U.S. Capitol Police gave the all clear signal on Tuesday after investigating a suspicious package near the Supreme Court, a spokeswoman said.

Police determined that an abandoned baby carriage near the Supreme Court posed no threat after evacuating several streets and calling in a bomb squad, spokeswoman Makema Turner said.
