Misurata says it has asked for foreign ground troops
Source: Washington Post

MISURATA, Libya — The top governing committee in the besieged western city of Misurata said Tuesday it has made an official request for foreign troops on the ground here to stop the killing of civilians by Gaddafi forces.

The request, which a committee spokesman said was submitted last week, marks the first time ground troops have been sought in Libya as a humanitarian crisis looms here following a nearly two-months-long siege by Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s forces. Food, water and gas are running out in the strategic port city as an untrained and outgunned rebel force tries to stave off artillery and rocket attacks on residential neighborhoods.

“We need a force from NATO or the United Nations on the ground now,” said Nouri Abdullah Abdulati, of the city’s 17-member judicial committee, speaking to a handful of reporters.

1. Are the armed rebels worried that being armed rebels can get you killed?
If you believed this lie, you will believe today's lie: "Saddam has weapons of mass destruction."

3. The important thing that it is "official".
Has to be on "official" revolutionary stationery with all "official" signatures and stamps
officially submitted to NATO's Requests Department and properly entered into the Incoming
registry. You wouldn't want such an important request to be turned down on a technicality.

4. And so it begins, as was obvious.
It was clear these rebel forces would ask for ground invasion of Libya. There were plenty of denials that such an event could occur.

7. The TNC has reiterated their position of no troops on the ground, according to Al Jazeera.
We'll see how the coming days pan out because if they send the wrong message to the Misrata council (ie, a vote of no confidence or something) it could backfire.

6. Libya: Abdul Ati al-Obeidi warns UK plan may worsen war
Libya's foreign minister says a British plan to send a military team to advise rebels fighting Col Gaddafi would harm chances of peace in the country.

A UK military presence in rebel-held Benghazi would "prolong" fighting, Abdul Ati al-Obeidi told the BBC.
