DOCTOR WHO’S Elisabeth Sladen has died?

Twitter and Facebook are alight with rumours that Elisabeth Sladen has passed away.

The Doctor Who star, who is best known as Sarah Jane Smith and also stars in the spin off CBBC show The Sarah Jane Adventures, is said to have passed away earlier today.

Sources say the 63 year old star died because of complications arising from a battle with cancer.

The news was first revealed by actress Nicola Bryant, an English star best known for her role as Perpugilliam “Peri” Brown, a companion of the Doctor from 1984 to 1986. She wrote on Twitter:

4. Shocking!
I'm speechless, this came as a complete surprise! I've met her on a couple of occasions at Doctor Who conventions and she was ALWAYS fantastic! We lost Nicholas Courtney (who played the Brigadier) a couple months ago and now Sarah Jane Smith. Indeed a sad day!

18. One sad thing....
Big Finish Productions, who do the audio productions of Doctors 5-8 have been discussing getting Tom Baker to finally do an audio with them. We could have heard a new adventure of the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane, but now will not.

19. One of my biggest disapointments
was not meeting her in the early 1980s. I had help fund bringing over a Doctor Who guest to a Doctor Who convention. The intent was to bring Ms. Sladen over, but she had a conflict. Instead we brought over Anthony Ainley (another actor which I miss). While I have not watched very many of the recent Doctor Who episodes, I did make a point of watching those in which Ms. Sladen performed.

Good by Sarah Jane and thank you for all the memories. My dad died of cancer at 65, and that is just too young. Prayers for your family.

26. Weird, true story. I didn't know what a TARDIS was until today.
Some guy passed me today with a bumper sticker that read 'My Other Car Is A TARDIS'.

I thought, WTH, so I googled it. Then, I knew. I had no knowledge of this series, had not seen a single episode, then I see this thread on the front page.

It kind of creeps me out.

May she rest in peace.

23. No, not my Sarah Jane...
"The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world, or a relationship... Everything has its time. And everything ends."

Sarah Jane Smith
"School Reunion", 2006

I'm going to grow cry now.

mob up and all demand Sarah Jane episodes (several of which are on the server) will we mess up netflix?

We could experiment and agree to watch the same one at a certain time.

Just to see what happens.

...Seriously, Doctor Who was one of the coolest discoveries of my teen years, and my first doc and asst were Tom Baker/Doc and Elisabeth Sladen/Sarah Jane.
